DIETRICH METAL FRAMING, Warren, OH 1984-2008
Slitting and roll forming company, manufacturing metal framing for
commercial building industry.
Traffic Supervisor and Coordinator (2001-2008)
Responsible for the warehousing of steel coil and metal framing parts. The
ordering of truck and railcars to ship the product, and the safety and
direction of the work force to ship the correct material.
. Reorganized the warehouse to make it efficient to load railcars and
trucks allowing us to ship 30% more product with a 20% reduction in the
work force.
. Shaped the traffic department at Uni-mast when it was purchased by
Dietrich and had to be converted over to the Dietrich system. This was
all management and hourly employees in traffic and was completed 1 year
ahead of schedule with a 30% increase in shipping
. Pioneered a system to double check orders before shipping to
eliminate mistakes. Shipping previous to this would product 2 errors
average per month, after the system was in place only 4 errors occurred
from 2001-2008.
Production Supervisor (1995-2001)
A Production Supervisor in the slitting and roll form department. I was in
charge of the safety and supervision of all employee's, scheduling and
timeliness, getting orders completed on time and the organization of the
department.
. Transformed Dietrich from a blanking and sheeting operation, into a
slitting operation. Trained all hourly employee's on how to operate and
set the slitters. This was done in 3 weeks, which was half the time of
other plants.
. Trained the roll form department how to set up and run their
machines, a new process for Dietrich.
. Organized the roll form department to improve efficiency, worked with
production control, foreman, and hourly workers to get orders completed
on time.
. Increased production by 40% and improved the on time shipping rate
from 81% to 97%.
. Solved a problem with slitter production bottoming out by working
with production control to group orders together to save on un-needed
change overs, and all 3 shifts to improve efficiency. Increased
production by 50% and was able to increase shipping to our customers by
40%.
Traffic Manager (1986-1995)
Performed management duties in the Traffic Department, negotiated freight
rates, ordered trucks and railcars to ship product to 48 states and
controlled the work force in both production and safety issues. Controlled
a fleet of 12 trucks, as well.
. Negotiated with carriers to cut our freight cost by 40% by setting up
shipping routes with individual carriers. Also, set up a monitoring
system to be sure we were using the lowest rate carrier.
. Organized a just in time program with Chrysler and General Motors to
ship them product within 24 hours, to decrease their inventory and
increase our business with them by 30%.
. Restructured the Traffic Department to be more efficient and
accountable in the use of our fleet which increased our profitability
with our fleet by 40%.
CONCOL PIPE AND STEEL, New Castle, PA 1979-1984
Privately held 100 million dollar pipe supply and fabricating company.
Operations Manager
Pioneered and developed various changes in the operation of this 20 acre
pipe yard. Managed both inbound and outbound shipments and controlled the
work force. Also, installed several new operation to increase profits and
efficiency.
. Transformed Concol's operations in New Castle into the most efficient
and profitable operation in the Concol system. Added a pipe threading
operation and a welding operation which increased profits by 60%. Trained
all management and hourly employee's and installed like systems in our
St. Louis, Missouri and Saginaw, Alabama plants.
. Led a team that developed and secured a pipe piling contract for $8M
for Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, which was the
largest project Concol ever secured.
