To it may concern:
It is with great pleasure that I am seeking to secure an adjunct teaching position within
your school. I believe my instructional abilities, combined with my strong interpersonal
skills and work ethic would greatly benefit your educational program.
I believe that education is the key to success for young and mature students. As a teacher,
I hope to motivate students in ascertaining their inner strengths and abilities and
discovering what truly inspires them. I aim to provide a stimulating learning
environment that encourages students to trust their own opinions, while fostering
confidence in order for students to realize their full potential.
Through my teaching experience thus far, I have found the method of facilitating rather
than dictating to be highly beneficial style of teaching. I have learned that if students
construct their own learning experiences they will not only retain information longer, but
they will also become more confident in their abilities. Being devoted to this assertion
confirms that I have made the right career choice for myself. I love working with college
students and will continue to strive to be a positive influence in their lives.
I have come to realize how vital education is in the preparation for college students to
achieve success in all endeavors set before them. I hope to instill a love for learning and
a desire for constant knowledge within each student.
The classes I am currently teaching are: Introduction to Business, Introduction to
Computers, Micropackages better known as (Microsoft Office), Keyboarding and
Information Warfare and Security.
Please contact me at your convenience to set up a meeting so that we may discuss in
greater detail how my qualifications would best meet the needs of your educational
program. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Jaletha Staley - Stewart

My Teaching Philosophy – Jaletha Staley - Stewart
I attempted to find a quote that would some how easily and quickly sum up my
feelings regarding teaching and education. Instead, I found several different quotes all
of which struck me as significant and true...
"The beautiful thing about education is that no one can take it away from you" B.B. King
"A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell, where his influence stops." Henry B. Adams
"The whole art of teaching is only the art of awakening the natural curiosity of young
minds for the purpose of satisfying it afterwards." Anatole France
"To teach is to learn twice." Joseph Joubert
"He is to be educated because he is a man, and not because he is to make shoes, nails, and
pins." William Channing
"All who have meditated on the art of governing mankind have been convinced that the fate
of empires depends on the education of youth." Aristotle
"Life is a succession of lessons, which must be lived to be understood." Ralph Waldo
Emerson
I hold several beliefs that will help to guide me in teaching. These beliefs form the basis
of my philosophy of education. My philosophy is based on respect, trust, and classroom
community. From there I believe that instruction should be functional and individualized.
I also believe that students should be given equal opportunities and be placed in settings
that work best for them. My beliefs extend into the necessity for a solid discipline system
and assessment processes. My philosophy also includes responsibilities I have as a
teacher to my students and ways that I can effectively motivate my students to do their
best.
Foremost, I believe that it is essential to be respectful as a teacher. Each student
deserves the utmost respect despite any differences or difficulties they may have.
Respect is the first step to happy students and a productive classroom. Not only is
respect conductive to classroom productivity, it also just makes everyone feel better.
When you show your students respect, they will give you the same respect back and will
follow your lead and instructions. When you demonstrate respect to students, they will
learn through observations the appropriate way to treat their classmates and teachers.
With respect, students will be able to speak their minds without fear of being made fun
of. When allowed to speak their mind freely, students begin to learn about one another
and both their similarities and differences. Learning about differences promotes respect
and understanding. Respect leads to trust between teachers and students.
I believe that trust is also essential in the classroom. When your students trust
you, they know you will not ask them to do something that isn’t worthwhile and will be
willing to try what you ask them to. Trust also helps students to learn that they can work
together and reap major benefits. When there is respect and trust in the classroom, it will
become more than just an area that students learn, the classroom and the people within it
will become a community.
I believe a classroom community is indispensable. In a community, students
benefit both academically and socially. Working together allows students to share ideas,
check one another’s work, and tutor one another thus benefiting their academics. This
sharing also increases social skills because students need to communicate with one
another. A community can be supported by class meetings in which students share their
feelings about certain situations, work together to establish rules and expectations, and
resolve conflicts. A community teaches students functional skills that can use in
everyday life.
I believe that students should only be taught functional skills. I see no point in
filling students’ heads with information that they cannot use outside of the classroom.
Students with exceptional learning needs already have difficulties in learning and require
extra attention and time. Why waste precious time to teach useless knowledge? The
skills that students learn should be useful to them in any situation. These skills, therefore,
should also be easily generalized. Functional and generalized skills provide students with
bountiful choices and possibilities when they are working, playing, or learning.
