Within my tenure at the Federal Prison Industries La Tuna, TX., as the

UNICOR Factory Manager. I gained professional knowledge and experience of

brush making theories along with the principles and practices applicable to

the full range of maintenance and paint and varnish brushes produced at the

Federal Prison Industries, La Tuna, UNICOR Brush Factory. I acquired

thorough knowledge in the use and operations of the various plastic

molding, paint brush and push broom equipment and machinery used in the

manufacturing of the Brush Factory's production line. I am thoroughly

familiar with materials and procedures of brush production and

knowledgeable of technical and practical processes. I am very familiar with

related products such as plastic handles(75 different handles), various

filler materials (natural and man-made), wood (blocks and handles), and

cardboard (boxes, cartons, and inserts). Knowledgeable of adequacy and

quality acceptability of all raw materials used in the Broom and Brush

Factory to ensure that rigid Government specifications are met. An

efficient and versatile production line must be maintained that includes

control of excess raw materials, work in process finished goods

inventories. La Tuna Brush Factory produced 135 different brushes.

My duties also included knowledge and working experience of two ferrule

making machines in the Factory and the application of General Services

Administration's specifications concerning types of metals, tin, tin plate

and nickel plate and also weights and thickness according to the specified

use for paint brushes under their contract.

Daily production varied due to the monthly quantities ordered under

contract to our main customer, General Services Administration. This

contract was administered by and Administrator assigned to us based in San

Francisco, California.

I was in constant contact with this Administrator concerning brush order

status and weekly updates on delivery of these orders. GSA Representatives

based in Fort Worth, Texas, and Auburn, Washington also contacted me.

I was trained by the UNICOR Systems Administrator at the Federal Prison

Industries La Tuna, TX., on the UNICOR Management Control System phase 3A

and phase 3B. Along with being trained on UNICORS' latest program, System

Applications Products (SAP). I used these systems to monitor work orders

and released brush orders to the Supervisors on the production line, which

they are assigned to.

a complete range of factory production operations related to paintbrush and

floor sweepers for Government Services Administration. Solid knowledge of

responsible for ordering raw material for the Brush Factory.

With the SYMIX System, System Applications Products (SAP), I released brush

orders to the production supervisors and also closed these orders upon

completion of a finial cost analysis. I checked inventory levels of

material and submitted purchase requests to purchase materials for the

continued production. I was in charge of scheduling and submitting overtime

hours and pay for the Broom and Brush supervisors.

I had phone communications with the General Services Contract Administrator

of our broom and brush contracts. I provided brush order status as well as

shipping dates and in the case of delinquent deliveries. I also had phone

contacts with material suppliers and equipment and machinery vendors.

I was responsible for providing verbal, written and visual instruction for

training and supervising workers in the finishing of maintenance brushes.

This included the training of trimming machine operators, boxers, packagers

and production coordinators who would be familiar with all finishing

operations. Training band saw operators and a lead position to be familiar

with all operations as well as assisting with production and payroll

records.
