Northbrook, Illinois 60062
(Employed at the Austin unit of this forensic engineering firm)
June 20, 2007 – June 12, 2009 (first three months as temp-to-hire)
Administrative Assistant II – Although I was initially hired as a receptionist, for phone duty and other low-
level clerical tasks, my workload gradually evolved to include a great many support services for the entire
office. Because of my technical background and discerning editing skills, I was charged with the editing and
production of a majority of the technical reports issued from the Austin office of this forensic engineering
firm during my second year. It also fell to me to provide a variety of administrative services to the manager
and other principals of the Austin unit. Less than a year after I started working in this office, I unexpectedly
had full responsibility for all of the administrative services for the office for an entire month while both of
the other administrative staff members were unexpectedly out at the same time for medical leaves, and I
emerged from that period with a reputation for hard work, careful attention to the needs of the staff members,
and an eagerness to learn. My responsibilities in this office included searching for and acquiring library
materials.

Mail Clerk (Seasonal)
Hired for the peak tax season, this work was on an early shift (starting at 4 a.m.) and involved a variety of
different mail-handling procedures, and escalating intensity of work as tax day approached. Although offered
overtime hours were optional, I worked almost every hour that was offered, including a three-week stretch of
working seven days a week 10 or more hours each day. There were also occasions when mail clerks were loaned
to other departments for other types of tax return processing, and this was something that I volunteered for
whenever such help was needed.
