Responsibilities include: Triaging patients to
assess between critical and non-critical
illness/injury, notifying DVM's of immediately
critical patients, placing iv catheters, obtaining
blood and other samples for lab tests, taking and
developing radiographs, calculating appropriate
drug doses, administering medications orally and
intravenously, tube feeding via naso-gastric and
esophageal tube, treating / observing both
extremely critical and non-critical patients (
including Emergency cases, Surgical specialty

anesthesia, intubation and extubation of patients,
placing urinary catheters, CPR, post-operative
recovery and care, cleaning of operating room,

pressure by Doppler, monitoring EKG, assisting
DVM's in performing procedures, appropriate methods
of restraint (including physical, chemical). In
addition, as Oncology LVT, responsible for
obtaining blood and urine samples for
pre-chemotherapy screening. Placeing iv catheters
for anesthesia and/or aministering iv chemotherapy
agents. Observing proper safety procedures for
handling, administering, and disguarding
chemotherapy agents. Mantaining comfort and well
being of chemotherapy patients as well as
communicating with clients. Preparing/monitoring
oncology patients for biopsy/ctologic procedures as
directed by Oncology DVM (including bone marrow
biopsy/aspirate, lymph node biopsy/aspirate
(internal or cutaneous, +/-ultrasound guidance).
Notifying Oncologist of any concerns. Maintaining
stock of chemotheryapy agents, as well as assuring
appropriate chemotherapy agent handling/waste
clean-up/ disposal are strictly followed by all
hospital staff members,a.
