My professional career spans a variety of assignments in multiple
environments. During this time, I have encountered and solved a diverse
assortment of technical problems. I have consistently demonstrated
aptitude for managing personnel, solving complex problems and communicating
the results. I enjoy taking the initiative of actively seeking

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Dana Holding Corporation - Heavy Vehicle Technical Center; Kalamazoo, MI.
Senior Materials Engineer, December 2008 - present.
Serve as the primary Materials Engineer for the Heavy Vehicle / Off Highway
Group. Perform failure analysis on a variety of components (including
gears, shafts and housings) to improve design, and solve warranty and
manufacturing problems. Collaborate with suppliers to develop
manufacturing processes. Conduct materials evaluation for product design.
Support manufacturing facilities with materials engineering assistance.
Present information in a technical report format.
Key Accomplishments
. Developed a system to manage lab priorities, direct technician work
and monitor metrics to evaluate performance. This process resulted in
increased efficiency and elimination of requests older than 90 days.
. Managed the metallurgical Pre-Production Approval Process (PPAP) for
two new major product launches involving over thirty critical new or
re-designed components.
General Motors - Powertrain Division; Bay City, MI. August 2000 - December
2008.
Production Supervisor, January 2006 - December 2008.
Manage the activities of technicians across multiple product lines in a
union environment. Responsible for ensuring safety, quality and
housekeeping procedures are followed. Plan production to ensure schedules
are met. Directed implementation of GM's Global Manufacturing System.
Key Accomplishments
. Led teams through 25-50% manpower reductions while maintaining
previously scheduled productivity
. Implemented Team Leader (TL) concept and developed them in two areas
Supplier Quality Engineer / Supervisor - Inspection, March 2004 - January
2006.
Responsible for establishing the quality of incoming automotive components
from 65 suppliers. Document problems with supplied parts and ensure
corrective actions are adequate. Work with suppliers to develop more
robust quality systems. Supervise hourly inspectors responsible for
auditing final products.
Key Accomplishments
. Developed system to ensure product is released from final audit areas
efficiently
. Championed casting supplier scrap reduction program
. Implemented process to sort vendor defects prior to value added work
being performed
Quality Engineer, August 2002 - March 2004.
Responsible for quality of products in a high volume automotive component
manufacturing environment. Act as single point customer contact at the
plant level. Ensure QS-9000 requirements are followed. Supervise hourly
inspectors.
Key Accomplishments
. 60% reduction in defective PPM
. Championed scrap reduction program that lead to a 40% reduction in
departmental scrap
. Lead team through two successful QS-9000 audits, including a re-
certification audit
Manufacturing Metallurgist, August 2000 - August 2002.
Analyze material defects to determine their cause and publish reports
detailing the results. Validate metallurgical aspects of products, with
emphasis on heat treating and induction hardening work done in house. Work
with suppliers to ensure parts meet print requirements. Maintain laboratory
compliance with QS-9000 / ISO-14001 standards.
Key Accomplishments
. Led lab staff in re-writing procedures to be compliant with QS-9000
requirements.
. Developed and implemented audit system that ensured all incoming parts
were checked for conformity to blueprint metallurgical requirements at
least once per year.
. Created several software programs for staff use that allowed for
improved efficiency
General Motors - Powertrain Division (contract through Aerotek Scientific);
Saginaw, MI.
Test Engineer, February 2000 - August 2000.
Responsible for a variety of validation tests, including development,
setup, operation and maintenance of new and existing tests. Provide
interpretation of post-test evaluation of components, including
metallography, fractography and image analysis. Analyze data and produced
reports that gave a clear, concise summary of test results. Responsible
for coordinating and supervising the work of four technicians.
Key Accomplishments
. Eliminated two-year backlog of unfinished tests and unwritten
reports.
. Handled the logistics and prepared equipment for the lab's move to
Wixom, MI facility.
