EXPERIENCE I have a broad range of experience based on the beginnings in a

self employed family business which enabled me to step into an intense

management role in corporate business. I am presenting these experiences

in 3 sections self employment, graduate student, and corporate business

Buchanan Sawmill Sims, Illinois 63-76 (self-employment)

Logging, Milling, Chipping and Machinery construction

Background/Scope: a start to finish operation delivering 5-7 truck loads of

lumber, 7-14 truck loads of wood chips, and 1-2 truck loads of piling or

grade logs a week

Equipment: 2 skidders, 2 tractors, 4 loaders, 5 trucks, chipper, and a

portable and stationary mill Responsibilities: Started as summer labor in

High School and became responsible for all operations.

Note: a mill is a processing plant with many materials handling problems

including: Chain, Belt & Pneumatic conveyors, Screens, Augers, Rollers, and

Pneumatic, Hydraulic & Electric systems

- Safety concerns are paramount in this industry

- My designs of mills works so well that others purchased

them

- Necessary interactions with Department on Natural

Resources & other agencies

- Many contracts are negotiated made and executed in the

course of business

Buchanan Farms Keenes, Illinois 76-89 (self-employment)

Grain, Livestock, Spraying, Storage, Land ownership and Fuel Alcohol

Background/Scope: 5000 acres of grain cropland spread over 3 counties

Direct Reports: up to 10 men

Equipment: 4 Combines, 6 Tractors, specialized tools, 4 Trucks, and Grain

Storage and Shop Facilities

Responsibilities: Owner Operator Bottom line

- Interaction with Government agencies USDA, Conservation

agencies, BATF, and EPA

- Designed, built, and permitted a 20 gal/hr Plate column

still for fuel alcohol

- Licensed for purchase and application of chemicals (weed

killers and grain treatment)

Land Clearing, Grading, Lake, Road, Airstrips, and Waterway construction

Most operations were conducted on family property with limited contracting

to others hence this is land development instead of a construction

business.

Equipment: 6 Cats, 3 Scrapers, 3 Trucks, Road Grader, 2 Air compressors, 2

Welders and 2 Fuel depots

Responsibilities: Operator, Foreman, Maintenance, Training, and layout.

Buchanan Oil Fairfield, Illinois 76-89 (self-employment)

Background/Scope: 150 oil wells in 9 fields with 8 injection wells and four

kinds of pipelines

Direct Reports: up to 15 men and independent contractors.

Equipment: Cat, Backhoe, 2 work-over units, Spudder, 5 Trucks, LPG plant,

and Rotary Drilling Rig

Responsibilities: Day to day operations; Trouble Shooting; maintenance;

planning and construction of tank batteries and pipelines; and Training.

- Coordinated many jobs with waiting time in excess of

$1500/hr

- Involved with Department of mines and Minerals for

Permitting

- Many oversized loads requiring permits to move

- Had organized office with a staff of 3

- A lot of abstract work required in the course of business

- Set up Pump stations with automatic controls

Researcher/ Graduate Student (SIU) Carbondale, Illinois 96-99

I returned to college with my son as a researcher while farming part time.

Reclamation oriented thesis on direct re-vegetation of power plant and mine

waste

- Worked with large scale modeling of Trona mine

- Explored possible uses of fly ash

- Worked on Rib Rash problem

Caterpillar (contract CEMS and Bradford & Galt) Peoria, Illinois 99-09

Background/Scope: $10 Million Orders annually which serve / control $2

Billion of prime product. Set priorities, manage and complete concurrent

projects that have broadly defined goals. Appropriate managers were kept

informed of special problems and project status.

Application Analysis / Quote development (Cat)

Communicate with dealer, engineers, and or customer, to define the problem.

Analyze problems and define possible solutions, in the form of a quote.

Identify unique problem areas, prioritize, price and delegate the

contractors necessary for completion. Compile costs for options, parts and

pricing for a timely delivery of the quote and hardware.

- Estimated a $5M loss for Newmont contract in Oct of 2003 was proved

correct in 2006

- Predicted the first Newmont Ghana deal would fail due to radio

frequency allocations

- Created BOM for the move of MineStar from C del C to Cerro Matso

Project management (Cat)

I was the default unless/until a project manager was installed.

- Project Manager on Robinson Quatra

- Project Manager on Newmont until I trained Ryan Howell to assume the

job

- Worked on the final settlement of the Newmont project

- Helped legal determine propriety information from industry standard

on Newmont Contract

Logistics / Training Support Manager (Cat)

Demonstration, and test items have difficult logistics and customs issues

because they are not production items with prices, classifications and

compliance issues

- Got initial AccuGrade components into Brazil for Demonstration

- Got training & show materials to various locations all over the

world

- Kept all shovels working despite pressure sensor problem in 2005

- Managed the 1 yr supply gap- recalls, in displays, receivers,and

masts

- Trained several people on how to ship and document training

materials

- Worked with Morton to set the inventory levels of parts in Morton,

Grimburgen, Melbourne, Denver, Miami, Singapore, and Johannesburg

Six Sigma / Quality Cost reduction (Cat)

- Was Greenbelt on MineStar quote project

- Member of the Sametime roll out to Corporate Global Mining

- Was lead green belt on MineStar price pages project

- Saved and documented $250K last month of employment

Buyer / Order analyst (Cat)

I was backup to anyone involved in mining solutions, including Aquila site

manager and a "go to" person for difficult problems that have no clear

resolution.

- Ordered computers for several mines including the request for

investment required

- Worked with suppliers on red line drawings and cut purchase orders

for experimental hardware

- Resolved Grief on orders and trained many dealer personnel to used

Cat order system

- Help many dealers to change their procedures to effectively use and

track Cat order system

- Input Aquila orders for Cat supplied parts

- Controlled several internal Cat dealerships

Product Support (Cat)

- Operated the second shift hotline for CAES and MineStar

- Warranty support and policies

- Onsite at Go-Live for MineStar at C del C in Columbia and Black

Data Mining (Cat)

- Developed Excel spreadsheet to track all technology enabled machines
