- Brought in to replace a 20+ year employee in a Business
Systems Engineer role. The plan was for me to spend
some time doing maintenance to allow me to get familiar
with the systems, then change over to the BSE role.
- Developed multiple Unix programs to support Web
interfaces as needed.
- Developed and implemented EDI mappings for orders,
shipments, receipts,
product disposition changes and inventory totals using
ANSI X12 formats; to handle the Hitachi and IBM
business.
- Learned the Unix environment, SCL, Cronus scheduler and
the SPOD
development tool. Built the 2010 schedules in the
Cronus scheduler.
- Handled some small Unix Adabas Natural projects and
On-call support.

GATX Subcontracting Consultant, Mainframe augmentation

- Responsible for modifying large legacy Cobol programs
from the '60s to allow them to work correctly with Java
interfaces from a new development project.
- Completed 25-30 maintenance project requests, including
Functional and Technical Specifications, programming
and testing with before and after Test Results and new
Report Outputs for each.

understand requirements, as well as review results for
approval.
- All projects involved some combination of Cobol, Adabas
Natural, VSAM, and JCL changes.

- Responsible for the private label credit card merchant
interfaces to HSBC, I was made the subject matter
expert after a short time with the company.
- Designed a unique merchant interface for a large new
merchant, which allowed for the warehousing of both
promotional and sales transactions so they could be
processed together based on future product delivery
dates. This was necessary in order to delay the billing
of the account until the customer had taken delivery of
the product. I lead a team in the development effort
and I also developed the core components.
- Spearheaded the creation of monthly collaboration
meetings between our team and other teams in order to
cross train and share system information.
- After only 3 months with the company, I served as the
Junior Achievement coordinator for HTS Wooddale and
helped HSBC achieve their largest fund raising dollars
to date.

- Responsible for all aspects of designing and developing
new history systems to capture historical journal data
for the Casualty, Life, Accident and Health insurance
policies. These new systems were written to allow for
online access with data archiving/restore and printing
capabilities. The data repositories also supported the
regulatory reporting requirements as dictated by each
state's compliance criteria.
- Developed scope documents to present the concepts at a
high level.
- Created project plans that identified the tasks and
deliverables.
- Working with other managers, assigned the necessary
resources based on required skill set and resource
availability.
- Developed multiple design documents including: system
flowcharts, program specifications, space utilization
estimates, data mappings and online screen designs.
Also created other forms of system documentation and
training materials.
- Designed the data mapping necessary to de-normalize
multiple Oracle based tables and create a VSAM based
data repository retaining all referential integrity.
- Coordinated the efforts of in-house mainframe and Unix
resources, as well as off-site consultants to bring the
projects together on time.
- Maintained project plans modifying resources, hours and
dates where necessary to keep them accurate as the
projects progressed.
- Designed and developed a series of automated data
selection programs to
handle various data mining requirements due to
state mandated
regulatory reporting. These were implemented for
all regulatory reports.
- Also automated the generation of reminder emails to the
user community to assist in the management of
regulatory reporting deadlines. These two efforts
changed multiple annual, quarterly and monthly project
requests into user initiated processes that required
little or no IT intervention.
- Trained users on new History systems, as well as the
new automated regulatory reporting system.
- Managed multiple in-house resources on various
miscellaneous projects.
- Personally handled urgent requests for special reports
from executives, Legal, Marketing and Compliance.

load process

- Worked on a team to remodel the target Data Mart to
eliminate redundant data.
- Wrote and tested 5 to 10 COBOL programs, sorts and JCLs
to replace the
DB2 Joins that were originally being used to
unload the tables. The Data
Mart load time went from 48 hours to 24 hours.
02/00 - 06/00 Sr. Architect, lead analyst on E-reporting project
- Responsible for learning a new ETL tool Informatica
Power Center/Power
Mart. Also responsible for the installation, and
setting up connectivity
with MS SQL Server.
- Worked with a team to translate business metrics to
move insurance data into a Data Mart by defining the
appropriate transformations.
- Used the new ETL tool to create data mappings and
sessions to load the new Data Mart.

- Given the responsibility to make all applications
written in a language no one knew(Gener/OL)Year 2000
compliant. Learned the language, designed and
documented a solution, then taught two junior
programmers the language and solution in order to
complete all of the applications on time.
- Designed, documented and implemented the solutions for
all Easytrieve programs.
- Designed, documented and implemented the solution for
all VSAM impacted files with dates in the key.
- Developed the programs necessary to build a
synchronized test data bed for the Student Accounting
systems.
- Worked closely with all of the application managers to
complete systems testing on all of the applications.

firms to plan the project from a high-level perspective

on the Accounting systems. This involved communicating
with the business partners and other application teams

calls promptly, identifying the problem. I followed up

Allstate Ins. Subcontracting Consultant, Analyst for Year 2000
compliance project
Northbrook, IL.
- Identified all of the elements associated with 33
subsystems, all files, interfaces, date routines and
any elements impacted by date fields. This information
was used to determine the best method to achieve
compliancy and to implement the changes. All of the
information was stored on an Access database to allow
detailed reporting by subsystem.
- Designed, coded and tested the CICS commarea bridge
program needed to reduce and expand commareas
containing date fields. This was necessitated due to
the phased implementation approach of the Year 2000
project which required compliant programs to interact
with non-compliant programs.

- Designed, developed, tested and implemented many
projects for the Order Entry, Order Processing and
Customer Service systems using the 4Front SDLC
methodology.
- For a very large project that was reduced in scope due
to budget, designed and developed all of the interfaces
needed between the new and legacy systems to allow the
two systems to work together until the new system could
be completed the following year.
- Debugged previously irresolvable application system
problems and created change specifications for the
resolutions.
- Maintained the Order Entry, Order Processing and
Customer Service systems and earned a reputation as the
resident expert of these systems.
- Wrote a large number of Natural ADHOC programs to
identify and correct miscellaneous production problems.
