Employment History

2006- 2010: UC Office of the President HR Call Center Supervisor

Managed 14 employees in the Office of the President human resource department, which serves

as the main call center for all 12 statewide campuses. Responsible for prompt and accurate

resolutions to escalated issues involving the University’s health, welfare, disability and pension

plans. Represented the department on a variety of specialized work groups to establish efficient

policies and procedures. Conducted various off-site benefits and compliance training sessions

for University of California campus human resource offices, employees and retiree associations.

2003-2006: UC San Francisco Senior Benefits Analyst IV

Served as an expert resource for department benefits representatives, academic faculty and staff

employees on all Human Resource benefit matters. Provided individual counseling on

retirement plans, FSA accounts, 403(b) investments, service credit issues, leaves of absence, and

all accompanying Federal and State regulations. Was responsible for the creation of several

Human Resource informational seminars to various UC groups. Assisted senior management

with the design and implementation of process improvement models used to maximize efficiency

throughout the Human Resource department.

2002-2003: UC Office of the President HR Call Center Specialist

Assisted University of California retirees and active employees with health & welfare,

retirement, disability and investment programs. Duties included counseling individuals on all

health and welfare plans, acting as a liaison between insurance carriers and UC members,

preparing retirement estimates for faculty and staff, discussing UC-managed fund distribution

and investment options, and serving as a resource to all UC campus benefit representatives.

2000-2002: State Farm Insurance Agent

Successfully owned and managed an insurance agency in Northern San Diego County, with an

emphasis on retirement and estate planning through the use of IRA’s, mutual funds, life

insurance, and health insurance. Responsible for all aspects of daily business, including risk

management through client advisement, sales of multiple insurance products and investments,

employee development, marketing, budgeting and customer inquiries.

1996-2000: State Farm Agency Field Specialist

Served as a sales and technology manager for 35 State Farm agents in San Diego County. Duties

included training agents and staff on new life/health insurance products and computer software,

assisting agents with business planning, acting as a liaison between agents, claim representatives

and corporate employees, performing financial and compliance audits, and conducting retirement

planning seminars.

1995-1996: State Farm Underwriting Supervisor

Managed a group of 12 Regional Office employees in the Auto Underwriting Department. Duties

included employee hiring and development, employee terminations, short and long term goal

planning, production of reports and spreadsheets for company executives, implementation of

plans to monitor production and efficiency, and Department of Insurance complaint handling.

1992-1995: State Farm Auto Underwriter

Responsible for the underwriting and servicing of personal and commercial auto policies. Duties

included rating and classifying new business correctly, conducting claim reviews, counseling

high-loss households on risk management/avoidance techniques, responding to customer

complaints, and conducting underwriting audits.
