position.
EDUCATION: The University of Akron, Akron, Ohio
Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, Minor in Chemistry,
Specialization in Polymer Science
Research Area: Alignment of Polymer Nanofibers by Doping and
Electrospinning Techniques
Graduation Date: May 2004
G.P.A: 3.7/4.0 (Magna cum Laude)
TECHNICAL
EXPERIENCE:
1/05-Present Full-Time Technical Experience, Honda R&D Americas,
Raymond, Ohio. Working as a materials engineer with a
primary focus on the research and development of new surface
treatment technologies in such areas as paint, plating,
adhesives, and corrosion protection. Responsibilities
include designs of experiments to analyze multiple variables
in an efficient manner to obtain data for material and
process designs and specifications, project and timeline
management, quality audits of supplier processes and
controls, new product trials in lab environments as well as
scaled up in a mass production factory setting, advancement
of current materials and processes in pursuit of quality
improvements and cost down initiatives, root cause analysis
and problem solving of quality concerns, and supervision and
training of lab technicians. All work is conducted in a team
environment with Purchasing, Design, Manufacturing, and
Environmental groups to consider all aspects of each project
including cost, feasibility, usability, safety, and
environmental impact. Project updates are presented to
management on a monthly basis and presented to company VPs at
completion. Written technical reports are also issued upon
completion of supplier audits, material developments, and
material specifications. Major accomplishments include the
development of a corrosion resistant coating for magnesium,
chrome plating pitting countermeasures, PVC free adhesives
for environmental friendliness, and ongoing research of thin
film electrocoat. Other responsibilities include department
safety leader and HPLC analytical leader.
1/04-1/05 Full-Time Technical Experience, Sovereign Specialty Chemicals,
Akron, Ohio. Worked as a polymer research engineer and field
support representative. Major projects involved daily
manipulation/engineering of urethane adhesives to alter
viscosities, cure times, cost, and quality to meet the needs
of each customer. Also involved with technical support in
the sales of the flooring, roofing, and structural insulated
panel markets.
5/03-8/03 Chemical Engineering Co-op, PolyOne, Avon Lake, Ohio. Worked
as a polymer research engineer. Major project involved
research, development, and synthesis of inherently conductive
polymers. Also melt mixed various experimental polymers with
a Brabender mixing head.
8/02-1/03 Chemical Engineering Co-op, PolyOne, Avon Lake, Ohio. Worked
as a polymer research engineer. Major project involved
research and development of thermoplastic vulcanizate
elastomers. Also worked as an extruder technician on a
WP25mm extruder.
1/02-5/02 Chemical Engineering Co-op, Ashland Chemical, Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania. Major project involved designing a flammable
liquid drum distribution warehouse. Side projects involved
filter replacements and storage tank removals.
6/01-8/01 Chemical Engineering Co-op, Ashland Chemical, Cleveland, Ohio.
Major projects involved participating in a plant shutdown,
startup, and pump failure corrections. Side projects
included basic plant troubleshooting and updating P&IDs.
