PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

Senior Business Analyst, City of San Antonio, San Antonio, Texas

Apr '09 - Present

Project Description: The city of San Antonio (COSA) employs various

disjoint systems to execute sales within its various departments. The goal

of this project was to conduct an in-depth analysis of the As-Is financial

and sales business processes at the various departments (60+ business

areas), track the flow of revenue into SAP - the financial system of

record, and to create the To-Be landscape description for a new Point of

Sale (POS) system which would integrate seamlessly with SAP in real-time at

the sales transaction level.

RESPONSIBILITIES

. Requirements Gathering and Documentation Expert - Interacted with over

70 end-users from all levels to gather requirements, understand their

current business processes and bottlenecks, and translate their input

into lucid, crisp functional and technical requirements. Built an

exhaustive traceability matrix (MS Excel) to ensure that the

completeness and sequence of requirements was maintained. Assisted the

business in defining and maintaining cascading priorities and

dependencies within requirements. Employed UML modeling extensively to

capture requirements. (Activity, Class, Use Case, Timing and State

Machine Diagrams).

. Systems Integration Expert: Analyzed existing system landscape to

integrate MS Sharepoint with SAP Business Objects.

. Financial Business Analysis Expert - Conducted 60+ efficient,

streamlined JAD and JAR sessions to precisely articulate the business

requirements of various COSA departments. These departments used

payment collection mechanisms ranging from plain hand-written

notebooks to stand-alone, stable systems which did not interface with

SAP or the cash registers.

. BPE - Business Process Re-engineering - Observed 70 + end-users and

documented their system actions to identify the scope for business

process improvements. My findings significantly lessened average

transaction time. Worked with the IT team to examine these findings

and incorporate recommendations into revised training material. My

input was slotted into short-term fixes, long-term training issues and

quick fixes though spot end-user re-training.

. Documentation Expert - created As-Is and To-Be documentation for 60 +

COSA departments. This exhaustive body of work contained MS Visio

flowcharts for each separate business process and was the first

official record of the systems and methods within these departments.

It also contained documentation about recommendations, process issues,

and violations. All documentation was maintained within Sharepoint.

. System Architecture Expert - Worked closely with various COSA IT teams

(SAP, Mainframe systems, support teams and Business User team leads)

to articulate the various systems landscapes in use - in many cases

this documentation did not exist earlier. Owned deployment timeline

for the various system fixes that had been identified. This involved

understanding the inter-dependencies of the adjustments and the order

in which they would be deployed. Advocated and educated the business

on Agile methodologies to create track-able progress in small

increments by developing-testing-integrating. The final proposed

solution was a centralized, Object-oriented website which presented

relevant functionality based on User ID class.

. Business User Expert - Obtained sign-off on key POS requirements for

the various systems. Interacted with high-level stakeholders to

demonstrate, through presentations, the Return on Investment (ROI)

associated with the new POS system, all advantages thereof, the impact

of real-time integration with SAP and the crucial need to create

various system enhancements. These presentations were key in gaining

business user confidence.

. End User Interaction Expert - Shadowed the end users of 60+

departments to analyze their actual system actions. More than 14 stand-

alone systems and over six custom-built systems were observed,

analyzed and documented from the perspective of their interfaces to

SAP.

. Documentation Expert - For each of the 60 departments, created in-

depth Visio flows, knowledge documents (Excel) and As-Is process

description documents to comprehensively document all business

processes, pain points, key findings, recommendations, process

streamlining milestones, SAP user action faults, SAP security flaws

and unique requirements for that department. Developed Use Case

diagrams, ER Diagrams, and Activity Diagrams.

. GAP Analysis Expert - Spearheaded the effort to work with business

stakeholders at all levels, from customer service representatives and

supervisors to financial controllers and IT team leads - ensured that

all key findings were presented to the correct teams with the

appropriate urgency, priority and terminology. Spearheaded the effort

to perform GAP analysis in order to bridge the As-Is and To-Be

landscapes at the client.

. SAP Expert - Leveraged broad SAP knowledge to present workarounds,

recommendations and training suggestions to the business unit leaders

of all COSA end users who were using SAP for their daily sales tasks.

. Credit Card Services Expert - For those departments using credit card

terminals, analyzed their current processes, documented and escalated

Payment Card Industry (PCI) Non-Compliance issues and suggested

improvements to current COSA credit card usage Service Level

Agreements (SLAs).

. End User Training Expert - Worked with the users to provide them with

how-to's, tips and tricks in the system.

. Created RFP (Request for Proposal) document for this project. This

cross-referenced document presented potential POS vendors with all

requisite requirements, constraints and system features, slotted by

department, type of requirement and a scoring system which assigned

the "weight" in importance of the requirement to determine each

vendor's score.

. Expert at usage of MS Excel, Adobe Fireworks, MS PowerPoint, MS Visio,

SharePoint and MS Word.

the developers to revisit their programs in light of the new vital

issues. Suggested key modifications to new design which leveraged

existing advantages which in turn, minimized rework effort while

maximizing efficiency and avoiding cumbersome workarounds / new coding
