Eric Herrera Introduction
Personal web page: http://www.linkedin.com/in/ehsuccess
Experience as Director, Lead Technical Advisor in Engineering for multi-
national-corporation's leveraging over 20 years engineering and management
experience from NASA, The Boeing Company, Bombardier, Xerox, Freudenberg-
NOK, Alliant Techsystems (ATK), Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) and
currently operating Eric Herrera Consulting/Contract. Started business
units with success in part due to my alignment with company business
strategy and my consulting talents. My approach incorporates my technical
and marketing skill set to enable a cost efficient and time effective first
market launch.
I have championed and developed innovative principles and ideas; applied
theories, concepts and technologies to areas of engineering for highly
complex and technical products and manufacturing processes. For example, I
have been awarded numerous patents.
I have been awarded World Excellence Award's for my innovation in using CAE
and Six Sigma methods to save OEM's millions annually in testing,
prototyping, manufacturing and optimizing. Utilized quality control
management to insure not only the development of product but also the
manufacturing from the factory to a flawless first launch. I received
awards from Boeing for significantly reducing customer complaints using SPC
and code I wrote. I utilize control management in my daily work and I have
received my Six Sigma certification.
Throughout my experience I have insured that development and testing were
performed under a systems integration philosophy. I am using Systems
Integration Hybrid Engineering (SIHE) that I developed over the years to
insure that happens. For example, worked on developing the Ares Avionics
Mounting Structure (AMS) to protect avionics in the forward skirt extension
from predicted environments. I used SIHE for linear shape charge (LSC)
tests to characterize the pyrotechnic source shock and how that energy
propagates across structures. Identified the need to incorporate SIHE into
static rocket motor firing testing; I had involved local universities (BYU
etc) in that work. I participated in technical interchange meetings (TIM)
at the Marshall Flight Space Center (MSFC) regarding defining/predicting
external environments on Ares, such as liftoff, transonic, separation,
reentry and splashdown. For the work I have described above I was
responsible for developing the project plan, resources and costing.
I would like to leverage my technical and systems management ability/talent
by leading/conducting a team of engineers, scientists, and technicians and
manufacturing toward a flawless first launch, that is bringing product into
production in the most efficient and effective manner. My peers consider
me a change agent by my actions, I find that my greatest motivational tool
in leading people towards success, I would like to be enabled to have that
opportunity by being in a position of leadership.
One of my talents is to recognize talent in others and utilize it in a
synergistic way. My accomplishments are due to my team environment that I,
we, have created. I lead by influence, trust and reputation, not strictly
by appointment. I have a reputation in my field as a mentor and coach for
developing individuals. A talent I find quite valuable is being able to
convey complicated concepts/theories in a simple way thus empowering my
team to work with me leading to success. This ability has been recognized
not only in my, and my employer's success, but also in awards for best oral
presentations at SAE and other professional symposia.
Eric Herrera Quality Engineering and Manufacturing
My entrepreneurial skill have lead to my success in starting up business
unit 's such as the Advanced Vibrations and Acoustics (AVA) group for the
Freudenberg-NOK Corporation (FNGP). Responsibilities included P&L, supply
chain management, short and long term business roadmap, staffing,
scheduling and other relevant activity.
I have over 16 years experience in product development (PD) from NASA,
Boeing, Bombardier, Xerox, FNGP and ATK. My PD experience has involved
concept inception to strategic sourcing. Lessons learned from my PD and
six-sigma experiences enable me to use efficient and effective approaches.
For example I have used a specific seven-phase gate process that insures
flawless first launch. Briefly the manufacturability is identified in the
first 3 phases as part of the business case where the strategic sourcing
site is identified and notified. I involve the potential manufacturing
site early in the process; this is part of the TQM (total quality
management) concepts and culminates in the Transfer of Technology. This
structured approach also accounts for contract law, US and international
codes and IP. The phase one, for example, identifies a Charter Team and
this usually involves at least one person from a legal department. At each
phase gate the team reviews for IP, contract law and commercial codes. This
insures the set forth schedule is not impacted by "hidden/uncovered" legal
issues.
I have received my six-sigma certification in recognition of my success
using the various quality tools. I have performed DMAIC and DFSS; one of
my DFSS projects was awarded the World Excellence Award for eliminating
waste and increasing revenue generation.
Along with planning and becoming successful with respect to my business
unit's I have also participated in the staffing and implementation of
offshore analytical offices. My recognition of talent in others and
mentoring ability has staffed these offshore offices with high performers.
