Experience
Financial Systems Program Manager, EMC Corp, Pleasant Grove, Utah, 2009 -
2010
EMC is a Fortune 200 company. I work in the Pleasant Grove office that offers online backup
services. My role has been to bring online the systems that enable Europeans to pay natively
with European credit cards and in European currencies including euros and British pounds. This
has required proficiency in the European Value Added Tax (VAT) and a knowledge of payment
gateways, payment processors, and merchant account reconciliation.
Senior Financial Systems Analyst, Active Network, Draper, Utah, 2006 - 2009
The Active Network is a privately held corporation that provides online payment processing and
event management technology to 24 vertical markets. In our Utah office, we provided hosted
systems to manage all elements of very large conventions and conferences. My role was to
manage a team of business analysts and project managers to implement all needed technology
modules for registration processing, online credit card processing, and data reporting.
Opened European Office for Active Network (WingateWeb), Bracknell, England,
2007
My task from May 2007 to November 2007 was to open a European office for WingateWeb
(before our acquisition by the Active Network). I was responsible for locating the office, opening
European operations, hiring our first employees, opening a support center, executing our first
European engagements, and identifying potential European data centers for hosting our systems
in Europe. We learned much about processing payments in Euros and Pounds Sterling as well as
Value Added Tax (VAT), and the European marketplace. The office has been a big success. It has
now outgrown our Bracknell office space and has moved a few miles to Reading.
Financial Systems Analyst, (Active Network) WingateWeb, Lindon, Utah, 2005-
2006
I directed the configuration, customization, and deployment of large systems to maximize the
return on investment for our clients. In this role, we would learn the clients’ business
requirements and create the best solution blend of systems and process. Our goal was always to
provide the most efficient, flexible, and powerful system for the customer. I looked for
opportunities to use the latest technologies to enable new possibilities for clients. I also sought
to provide industry best practices to clients. As the project lead, I managed the efforts of
database developers, Java developers, user interface developers, and testers. Clients I worked
with in this role included BEA Systems, RSA Security, Symantec, EMC, Advent Software, BMC
Software and Hyperion.
Business Analyst, Active Network (WingateWeb) Jacksonville, Florida, 2004-2005
My work in this role was to build out CRM and financial processing database components for
large conferences. Two conferences I worked on exceeded 15,000 attendees. We launched Java
applications that run against a single Oracle database. This role required a deep understanding
of CRM strategy, financial systems, and database design. Clients I worked with in this role
included HP, Cisco Systems, Intel, Texas Instruments and others.
Technical Marketing, Novell Inc., Provo, Utah, 2000-2004
Working in Technical Marketing, I managed the technical content that was presented at Novell’s
technical conferences in the United States, Europe, Asia, South America, and Africa. This work
required me to interface with Novell Product Management, Marketing, Engineering, Consulting,
Technical Services, Sales, and Systems Engineering. A technical understanding of Novell’s products
as well as the information technology industry in general was essential.
Systems Engineer, Novell, Provo, Utah, 1996-2000
In this position, I mentored technical support engineers regarding the resolution of critical
Novell technical support issues for key customers. I focused on Novell’s wide area networking
and routing technologies. I enjoyed working in Novell Technical Services and learned as much
about working with people as I did about computer networking and information systems. I was
responsible for presenting customer issues to the engineering and product management
organizations. In this role, I presented firewall and VPN sessions at BrainShare and staffed
Novell exhibits at several trade shows and industry events.
Technical Sales, Novell, Provo, Utah, 1995-1996
In this role, I proposed detailed pre-sales technical configurations for Novell customers. It was
my job to determine the most efficient and effective way to accomplish a technical solution.
Solutions commonly included WAN integration, mainframe connectivity solutions, e-mail and
scheduling, remote access, routing, internet access, and network management.
Technical Writer & Trainer, Intel, American Fork, UT, 1993-1995
In this position, I developed a 100-page training course for Intel’s suite of network management
products. I co-presented the 3-day training course to Intel resellers in several cities across North
America. This required me to work together with the product teams that created the products.
These teams were located in various parts of North America and the Middle East. At Intel, I also
wrote white papers, product documentation, and online help. I gained experience in positioning
technical products in the marketplace and developed skill in communicating effectively on a
technical level.
