Professional Experience
Amonix Seal Beach California
2009-Current
Research and Development Process/Packaging Engineer providing
process/manufacturing development plans for current and new generation
(automated) manufacturing of CPV (concentrated photovoltaic devices).
Presently working in research and development of next generation CPV
packages. Responsible for equipment procurement, yield improvement and
manufacturing process development for future expansion. Process development
includes (but not limited to) Soft Solder Die Attach, Parallel Gap
Resistance Welding, Wire Bonding, Die Attach, Screen Printing, Solder
Reflow, Acoustic Sonoscan and X-Ray failure analysis.
Emcore Corporation Albuquerque New Mexico
2000-2008
Senior Process/Manufacturing Engineer responsible for process improvements,
infrastructure development, and yield monitoring for all back end
Space/Terrestrial Solar Cell and optoelectronics VCSEL (vertical cavity
surface emitting laser) manufacturing.
Dallas Semiconductor Dallas, TX 1995-2000
Manufacturing/Process Engineering - responsible for process improvement,
manufacturing yields, and maintenance of all equipment used in
manufacturing custom integrated circuits as Dallas Semiconductor.
Experience with equipment/process improvements for die sorting/die bonding,
wire bonding (Al and Au), glob top, automated assembly tools, high-speed
surface mount (pcb assembly).
Motorola Semiconductor Austin, TX
1989-1995
Manufacturing/Process Engineering responsible for process, yield and
equipment in front-end and back-end assembly of injection molded Quad Flat
Pack and Molded Carrier Ring semiconductor product at the Austin Assembly
Plant. These include: SMT die attach, solder reflow attach, wave
soldering, die bonding, wire-bonding, Fico auto injection molding systems,
Dusan auto deflash, trim/form, ring singulate and laser marking.
Key Achievements:
. Developed dice processes for VCSEL and solar cell devices on Ge, GaAs,
and InP wafers, as well as glass, ceramic and other materials. Yield
improvement of ~30%
. Team member responsible for procuring and implementing an automated
Solar Cell interconnect welding/inspection tool, which saved Emcore in
operating costs and improved capacity by replacing manual weld
operations/staff.
. Identified processes/equipment to improve space and terrestrial solar
cell cover glass attach process by upgrading equipment at minimum
costs, which improved throughput and raised yields considerably.
. Worked with a team to identify key employees and processes to be
transferred from Emcore's newly acquired facility in Southern
California to the Albuquerque facility, enabling the successful
transition of space cell manufacturing in Albuquerque to become a
reality. Worked with team to design layout, workflow, installation of
new equipment and defined processes. Implemented process control, work
instructions and trained operators.
. While working in the fiber optics division I developed a world-class
VCSEL die sorting operation by upgrading existing equipment at a
fraction of the cost of new equipment. These processes continue to run
flawlessly today.
. Procured and qualified automated inspection process utilizing the
August Technologies NSX 95 to provide wafer and group inspection of
VCSEL and Photodiode devices at a fraction of the time required by
manual inspection cutting costs and improving throughput.
. Developed dicing processes for IIIV semiconductor devices, cover glass
and ceramic substrates to eliminate the need for outsourcing the
dicing process and reduced costs by ~500K/annually. Provided factory
support by implementing, documenting and performing preventive and
corrective maintenance on semiconductor manufacturing equipment while
working closely with the Quality group
