Selected Accomplishments
Convinced OSHA to drop 90% of findings from a random audit at Saint-
Gobain's North Carolina plant. Minimized fines by developing and
completing an aggressive corrective action plan. Created a PowerPoint
training session for all other plants to prevent recurrence.
Attained total compliance with OSHA and FDA for the use of Class IV Lasers.
Saint-Gobain was introducing laser markers into production without
necessary FDA registration and certification. Led the initiative that
registered the lasers with the state agencies and secured FDA approval.
Prevented production delays.
Developed a system to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of Saint-
Gobain's safety program. Created reports that enabled line and staff
managers to set goals for each year and to monitor their progress toward
zero incidents. Cut recordable and lost time incident rates significantly.
Built a safety-sensitive culture at all levels.
Created a safety program for a new TRW facility in Anting, China.
Developed a complete EHS program to fit the culture and comply with Chinese
governments requirements. Trained employees at all levels and inculcated a
sense of safety consciousness that kept safety incidents well below average
for comparable facilities in China.
Implemented and managed the ISO 14001 environmental program that enabled
TRW to become an OEM for the automotive sector. Removed this major
obstacle that had prevented TRW from becoming an approved supplier for auto
manufacturers including Honda, GM, Toyota, Ford.
Cut TRW's generation of hazardous waste by 95%, with savings of over $150K.
Enabled TRW to be a conditionally exempt generator of hazardous waste.
Took action on all fronts including leading the team that found a new paint
to replace one that produced significant hazardous waste. Created a
healthier working environment.
Convinced the state of Illinois to allow early closure of a costly TRW
ground water remediation system with a 25-year life expectancy. Used
injection into the ground to dissolve the contamination to achieve closure.
Reduced end-of-life cost of the ground water system by 10 years or
greater, resulting in over $230K in savings.
