With over 30 years of experience in the government sector, Benjamin R
.Portman is well known and respected in the Data collection industry for
his product knowledge and expertise. Mr. Portman is a key contact within
the AIT industry in regard to manufacture support for new products and
technology within the data-collection industry. Currently, he consults for
a number of Data-collection companies helping them create channel selling
strategies. His proven blue prints for channel sales for government,
healthcare, retail, distribution and manufacturing help create revenue
through vertical marketing.
After attending the University of Cincinnati Engineering School in 1977,
Ben Portman began his employment with Telex Computer Products as a Service
Support Engineer. In this roll he provided support to all US Naval Finance
Centers nationwide for mainframe computer systems. This also involved
providing support to highly sensitive/secure computer service support
areas.
In 1982, Mr. Portman embarked on his employment opportunity as a Systems
Engineer for Calcomp. During his employment with Calcomp, he gained an
extensive knowledge of computers manufactured by DEC, IMB, Telex and some
robotics. Additionally, Mr. Portman also supported military contracts.
Ben Portman moved on to Decision Data in 1983 as the Head of Technical
Support for government accounts. There he utilized his technical knowledge
for pre-sales support.
In August 1988, he began his career at Lowry Computer Products, Inc. as a
pre-sales Support Engineer for the Sales Department. Soon afterwards he
migrated into a completely sales oriented role for Lowry due to his
knowledge for the data collection products and his ease of communicating
this knowledge to the customer. He began his work on the AIT contract in
1989 and also created a GSA schedule for the company. Mr. Portman was
instrumental in initiating the formation of the Government, Education, and
Medical Sales Division as a vertical market within Lowry. He has also
introduced new data collection ?AIT? equipment technology to many branches
of the government such as the Department of Justice, Department of
Agriculture, Department of Defense (DOD), Naval Surface Warfare and Supply
Systems, VA Medical Centers along with commercial customers such as, TRW,
Boeing, Raytheon, General Dynamics, and Northrop Grumman. Ben Portman has
been an active member of The Coalition for Government Procurement since
1994. Mr. Portman is also certified in Symbol Technologies, Zebra
Technologies, Printronix, Datamax, RFID, Intermec and countless other data
collection products. He also assisted in high-level sales situations for
the commercial group of Lowry Computer Products due to his knowledge of
compliances in the commercial world. Also have integrated many systems in
the healthcare industry. Such as Cerner,Mysys,HBOC.
