PBR Knoxville LLC is a Tier 1 supplier of automotive components supplying
brake calipers to General Motors and other tier 1 suppliers such as Bosch,
American Axle, and TRW. As general manager I have full P&L responsibility
for this company. I serve on the board of directors and report to the Vice
President of manufacturing. This company has over $100 million in sales
per year and 265 employees. In this role I direct all functional areas.
My direct reports are the Chief Financial Officer and other senior managers
responsible for Human resources, Materials and Logistics, Manufacturing
Operations, Engineering, Quality, and Purchasing. I have site
responsibility for all aspects of the business including the business plan,
headcount, salary administration, spending, and capital investment.

In this position I was responsible for the manufacturing and production
operation.
My direct reports were the unit level managers for each of the 4 product
lines. Performance metrics included Productivity, Labor Cost, Defect Rate,
Scrap Rate, Indirect Material Cost, Safety, Inventory, Delivery Performance
and Continuous Improvement.
During this time I assisted in the implementation of our Global
Manufacturing System.
This system is modeled after the Toyota Production System and includes
elements of Standardized Work, Organization and Housekeeping (5s), Just In
Time Delivery, People Development and Involvement (Teams), Built in Quality
(Poka Yoke), Operational Availability (Machine Uptime), and Continuous
Improvement and Innovation. This process was started in 2002 and continues
today. It is considered a benchmark within the organization.
