Chemical Engineer Intern (June 2009-August 2009)
Experience
• Worked closely with operators to write and develop a robust manual of standard
operating procedures for the wastewater treatment facility two months prior to deadline
• Analyzed the process efficiency of the wastewater treatment facility and discovered
simple improvements, in the form of recycle streams, to increase wastewater throughput
by 5 to 10%
• Attended multiple meetings addressing the formulation of a pyrethroid based
insecticide product and made a key recommendation for dramatic improvement of shelf
life
• Evaluated process equipment by performing momentum balance calculations and
comparing expected values to actual field data
• Designed tests to obtain plant parameters where instrumentation was unavailable,
and collaborated with maintenance personnel to successfully perform the experiments
Clubs & Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, University at Buffalo
Organizations Undergraduate Research, Mckittrick Group (May 2009 – Dec 2009)
• Assisted in research investigating the effect of dye doping on the electrochemical activity of
titania photocatalyst
• Characterized the surface area, composition, and performance of the catalytic materials
Engineering Impact on Society, University at Buffalo
Co-Leader of Carbon Capture and Storage Study (September 2008 – May 2009)
• Developed, organized, and led a project that investigated the operating cost and feasability of
carbon sequestration for a locally proposed petroleum coke gasification plant
• Utilized UniSim® process simulation software to calculate overall energy consumption of
carbon dioxide drying, compression, and frictional head loss in piping
• Attended public Q&A sessions held by the company where local politicans and community
residents asked questions and raised concerns in regards to the proposed plant
American Institute of Chemical Engineers, University at Buffalo (October 2007 - Present)
• Participated in the evaluation of associate professor candidates for an opening in the
Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering
