. Analyst/Programmer for the re-engineering of ASI system from IMS to DB2
data base.
. Project involved in:
. ASI Conversion. VSAM files and IMS calls were changed to SQL statements
in several COBOL II programs, both batch and on-line. Created subroutines
that update DB2 tables in order to avoid code while converting from DLI
to DB2 reducing the number of programs that update data bases from 33 to
6. Created test specifications and guide lines for testers, DBAs and IT
people.
. Environment: Government; Mainframe; COBOL II; CICS; DB2; IMS; FILE-AID
(DB2); JCL and XPEDITER.
Client: AFLAC
March 2003 to June 2004
. Main responsibilities as a Project Leader for Modernization of Legacy
Systems project were design batch and on-line modules; set up meetings
with users and IT people; track Projects till the end. He was in charge
of six Analyst Programmers and one tester.
. Main responsibilities as Analyst Programmer for HIPAA project were to
create HIPAA transactions for Claims System and then to MQ Series server.
. Projects involved in:
. Modernization of Legacy Systems. Eliminated VSAM files and change them to
DB2 tables. Data Normalization had to be done to design new DB2 tables;
hard coded tables were eliminated from working-storage COBOL II programs.
Eliminated Easy Thrieve programs and changed them to COBOL II because all
of them were going to select DB2 tables and needed SQL statements. Added
a new voice IVR module so CICS programs could send messages by voice in
Call Center application. Created a new step in Daily Cycle to validate
data coming from MQ Series messages. Eliminated production abends in
different CICS regions for Call Center and Claims sytems.
. HIPAA. Added new module to Daily Cycle in order to send policies that
were asked to have an electronic response to HIPAA system. That was a
Batch process that needed to gather data from eight DB2 Tables to a flat
MF file, then via TFP that file was sent to MQ Series as a transaction
message. Modified DB2 Tables to include new columns; modified CICS Maps
and COBOL II programs to use those new columns.
. Environment: Healthcare; Mainframe; COBOL II; CICS; DB2; VSAM; FILE-AID;
MQ Series; JCL and XPEDITER.
CIBER
Client: HIGHMARK BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD
Aug 2001 to Jan 2003
. Analyst/Programmer for Reimbursement, Claims and HIPAA Systems.
. Projects involved in:
. Reimbursement. Modified CICS Maps, COBOL programms and JCL Procs for
normal maintenance purposes because new polices would not be added to IMS
data base only to DB2 tables; also renewals were deleted from IMS data
base and inserted into DB2 tables.
. Claims. Modified CICS Maps, COBOL and Easy Thrieve programms, and JCL
Procs to match users' new requirements; a lot of programms had
compilation errors because they had old COBOL statements and were changed
to new COBOL II statements.
. HIPAA. Added new module to Daily Cycle in order to send policies that
were asked to have an electronic response to HIPAA system. That was a
Batch process that needed to gather data from IMS data base and DB2
Tables to a flat MF file, then via TFP that file was sent to MQ Series as
a transaction message.
. Environment: Health Care Insurance (HIPAA); Mainframe; COBOL; COBOL II;
CICS; DB2; VSAM; IMS; ENDEVOR; FILE-AID (DB2); EASY THRIEVE +; JCL and
XPEDITER.
SUN LIFE FINANCIAL
Aug 2000 to July 2001
. Analyst/Programmer for the New Products System. Functions Included
changing files and maps, programming, testing and documenting. Involved
in all system life cycle phases.
. Projects involved in:
. New Products. Modified CICS Maps, COBOL II programms and JCL Procs for
normal maintenance. Every time a new product was approved a lot of
maintenance had to be done because all logic was hard coded in diferent
programs, even the same calculations and formulas were repeated in
several programs. Changed a CICS application that needed 7 screens to add
a row into a DB2 table to use only 3 screens, also that table was re-
designed.
. Environment: Financial; Mainframe; COBOL II; CICS; VSAM; DB2; JCL; SMART
TEST; INSYNC; FILE AID (DB2); ENDEVOR; MVS; Visual Basic.
INTERIM TECHNOLOGY
Client: AMERICAN NATIONAL BANK

. Cash Manager System. Modified the following to include new century fields
and logic.
CICS Maps, COBOL II programs (reports, layouts and logic), VSAM, GDGs
and Flat
files' layouts.
JCL. Modified several procs to include new SORT fields and record
length in DCB
parameters. Also modified PARM statements and control records.
. Environment: Banking; Mainframe; COBOL; COBOL II; CICS; DB2; EASY
