I was a lab assistant for The University of Tennessee at Knoxville graduate
student Katherine Jones Irwin. The objective of the Thesis project was to
determine the mechanisms of the ketogenic diet in the treatment of
epilepsy. Thesis submitted May 2009, The Effect of Nutritionally Adequate
Ketogenic Diets Consistent in Protein, Fiber and Micronutrient Content on
Seizures in EL/Suz mice.
My lab responsibilities were as follows:
. Weighed mice and maintaining animal weights on hard copy and Excel
spreadsheet
. Assisted in seizure testing the mice by holding the mice
. Cleaned cages
. Assisted in feeding mice special diets weekly
. Checked on pregnant EL mice around the clock near their expected due
date
. Assisted in earmarking pups and reading earmarks during testing
. Assisted in brain removal/blood collection
