OBJECTIVE

Looking for a passionate and challenging opportunity requiring expertise in

design, finite element analysis and CFD.

Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering, May 2010

Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY

Current GPA: 3.467

Related Coursework: Finite Element Analysis, Machine Design, Automobile

Engineering, Advanced Mechanics of Materials, Materials and Processes in

Manufacturing, Material Technology, Automotive Engineering, CFD.

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, May 2008

Mumbai University, Fr. C. Rodrigues Institute of Technology, Mumbai, India

GRADUATE PROJECT EXPERIENCE

Masters Project-Syracuse University

Feb 2010-May 2010

. Designed a finite element savonius rotor and modeled it on ANSYS.

Performed modal analysis using the reduced method to determine natural

frequencies and mode shapes and obtained relative stresses and

deflections on the rotor and housing.

Manufacturing -Syracuse University

Sep 2008-Dec 2008

. Designed a basket for carrying steel rods by considering different

material behavior, manufacturing processes, cost effectiveness and

durability. Modified the design for carrying high temperature steel

rods also considering safety requirements.

. Inspected the materials and manufacturing processes used to produce a

hose adaptor. Surveyed customer feedbacks to find out flaws present

and recommended materials and manufacturing methods for optimal

performance of the adaptor.

OTHER PORJECT EXPERIENCE

Research Project-Syracuse University

May 2009-Sept 2009

. Modeled and generated results for the energy available for the growth

of a crack in a composite material under mixed mode bending (MMB)

using ABAQUS by conceptualizing a method to apply the virtual crack

closure technique (VCCT). The success of the modeling and analysis was

proved by comparing the results for 2D and 3D MMB models.

. Successfully designed and developed a grid independent shear-torsion-

bending model with edge delamination using ABAQUS.

FEA Projects-Syracuse University

Jan 2009-May 2009

. Designed and modeled a swimming pool diving board using the FEA

software ANSYS. Conducted transient dynamic, static, modal and

harmonic analyses and quantitatively compared the deflections and

stresses with Duraflex International. Determined damping behavior of

board by performing mode superposition with transient dynamic

analysis.

. Modeled a castellated beam and studied it under axial, lateral and

torsional buckling loads. Examined the behavior of the model with

various element types and different boundary conditions. Compared non-

linear and eigenvalue buckling approaches using ANSYS.

. Examined the effect of elasticity of support on a cantilever beam by

constructing the model using ANSYS. Diagnosed the effect of fillets,

change in element type, dimensions and shapes.

Heat Pump Assisted Drier-Mumbai University

Sep 2007-May 2008

. Fabricated and tested a Heat Pump Assisted Dryer in a team of 5

members, funded by Indian Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air

Conditioning Engineers (ISHRAE). Manufactured and assembled the

diffuser and evaluated performance of the chamber by testing it for

drying clothes, grapes and potatoes.

CFD Project-Syracuse University

Feb 2010-May 2010

. Understood the finite volume method and applied it to diffusion,

convection and unsteady flow problems. Generated 2D steady flow

problems using GAMBIT and used FLUENT to diagnose laminar flow for

internal and external flow. Solved grid independent turbulence flow,

thermal, unsteady and high speed compressible and multiphase flow

problems in Fluent. Inspected errors and uncertainty in solving CFD

problems.

Mechatronics-Mumbai University

July 2007-Dec 2007

. Understood the working of electromechanical systems and devices

including transducers and actuators. Studied the principles of servo-

mechanics, automation and applied the knowledge of sensors and control

systems to design and make a working model of a burglar sensing alarm.

CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

. Presented a National Level technical paper on Heat Pump Assisted Drier at

Fr. C.R.I.T., Mumbai, Feb 2008

. Presented a National Level technical paper titled "Introduction to Active

Suspension Systems" at College of Engineering, Pandharpur, Sept 2007

. Participated in a course on CFD and Heat Transfer conducted by IIT,

Bombay, July 2007-Nov 2007

. Student member of ASME and ISHRAE

SOFTWARE EXPERIENCE

Solidworks, Pro-E, AutoCAD, ANSYS, ABAQUS, C, C++, Maple, MATLAB, FLUENT

and GAMBIT
