Experience:
Staff Leader/ Assistant Manager in Training
Carmike Cinemas, Maysville, KY
June 2009- August 2010
As a Staff Leader, I work as a person in between management and the rest of the staff. Any problems that
arise in the theatre are brought to me first. This helps me problem solve quickly and taught me how to talk with
staff and patrons of the theatre. I have been able to learn a lot of technical aspects of working in a theatre,
including running the projectors and all of the digital networking. This has given me the opportunity to use
computers in a work environment and taught me to become proficient with new systems after quickly learning
them. I have been offered the Assistant Manager position in Lexington, Kentucky and at the theatre where I am
currently working. I was also considered for the Manager’s position at my current location. In my year of being at
my current job two managers have left, leaving the running of the theatre up to the Assistant Manager and myself.
We had to step up and work as a team to make sure the theatre ran for weeks at a time. During these times there
were days when I ran the building by myself, doing every day to day task a manager would do. Including sending
E-mails back and forth to the District Manager’s Secretary, getting paperwork completed in a timely fashion, stock
orders, inventory checks, keeping employee files in order, and doing weekly paper work. This has given me the
opportunity to lead a team of co-workers towards a common goal and accomplish it. Although I had the support of
a team behind me, I knew the responsibility of running the theater fell on me. This was not a deterrent for me; it
pushed me to excel at my given task in order to prove myself to my peers and superiors. I encountered some
resentment when starting as a Team Leader instead of coming up “through the ranks.” I was able to win the
respect of staff members by working hard alongside them, asking them to complete tasks instead of telling them
what to do and keeping them focused. I came into a new work environment and did my part to get the theatre and
staff back into a state where we work together as a team.
Full time college student, November 2008- June 2009
Color Guard Director
Mason County High School, Maysville, KY
July 2008- November 2008
As the Color Guard Director, I was in charge of keeping everyone on task and making sure the team was
working well together. I was also in charge of coming up with the routine the Color Guard would do for a show.
This challenged my creative side and administrative side simultaneously. This was my first experience being
entirely on my own as a Color Guard Director. During my leadership, the color guard was undefeated in their class
throughout the entire regular season.
Assistant Color Guard Director
Herndon High School, Herndon, VA
August 2005- June 2008
Working with Herndon High School as the Assistant Color Guard Director was my first Color Guard
position. I was given the position the summer after I graduated from Herndon High School. I was the first and only
marching band staff member to be given a job at Herndon High School so recently after graduating. Although
several members of the Color Guard knew me, I was recognized by them and the Color Guard staff for my ability
to lead a team by working with the Color Guard team members and providing guidance.
Sales Associate
Fuddruckers, Herndon, VA
April 2004- June-2005
Worked as a sales associate, mainly taking orders from customers. I had frequent interaction with public
during rush hours. Multiple times when an employee would not show or call in sick where I stepped up and did
their jobs. By the time I left Fuddruckers I knew how to do every job in the building, excluding management.
Other Assets:
• Plenty of experience using Word and Excel
• Can type 40 words per minute
• Worked plenty of cash registers, very rarely being over or short
