Contacted vendors to obtain schedules and quotes regarding repair and/or purchase of
new equipment and/or maintenance for teaching and/or research labs. Processed,
ordered, received, and distributed most teaching lab and some research lab orders before,
during, and after each semester. Shopped local markets and pet stores for lab items as
required. Fed and cared for live organisms until required by lab instructors. Cleaned,
organized, and maintained all storage areas and prep rooms. Coordinated schedule with
Physical Facilities regarding access to teaching and research labs for maintenance and
repairs. Prepared paperwork and subsequently arranged for pick up and disposal of
antiquated lab equipment and/or other inventory items. Planned daily and weekly work
schedules for three to four student lab assistants each semester.

Department of Chemistry, Lab Technician July 2003 – June 2007
Natural Sciences department split into two departments, Biology and Chemistry. With
the help of two student lab assistants, spent many months moving all Chemistry labs,
prep rooms, chemical inventory, compressed gases, refrigerator/freezer contents, and
small office furniture to the new building. Several additional months were required to set
up, organize, affix required signage, and label three floors of new prep rooms, glassware
and equipment storerooms, chemical storerooms, and compressed gas storeroom. Each
semester placed, received, and distributed all orders for teaching and research labs.
Maintained annual chemical inventory, including MSDS binder updates. Gathered and
organized hazardous waste from all labs and prepared waste manifest for periodic
collections. Monitored liquid nitrogen and compressed helium levels of NMR on a
weekly basis and replenished as required. Monitored D.I. water system readings and salt
levels and performed periodic flushing when necessary. Planned daily and weekly work
schedules for three to four student lab assistants each semester.

Assistant Urban Forrester February 2002 – April 2003
Reviewed construction plans submitted to county offices by contractors, land owners,
home builders, and home owners to ensure tree salvage and mitigation requirements were
met. Made sure the proper permits had been obtained before construction was
authorized. Attended weekly board meetings during which new construction proposals
were presented to county committee members by builders/developers/owners.
Discussions were held regarding consent or denial, current county construction and
mitigation requirements were discussed, and committee members were advised of any
changes. Periodic visits to construction and/or mitigation sites were often required. Left
job in order to attend graduate school and earn a Master of Science degree in biology.

Gopher Tortoise Relocation Project Assistant June 2007 – August 2007
Assisted with set up of bucket traps and capture of gopher tortoises for export to safe
location prior to construction of new university dorms and associated access roads.
Greenhouse Assistant April 1998 – August 2000
Assisted with rock flooring and shelving installation in new Biology Department
greenhouse. Performed ongoing maintenance of greenhouse water systems and kept log
of periodic temperature readings. Monitored and cared for research and/or teaching lab
plants/specimens.
Pitcher Plant Research Assistant May 1998 – August 2000
Set up grid over natural areas of pitcher plant populations on campus to learn more by
monitoring health, sizes, and growth patterns. Designed and set up artificial bog in
department greenhouse for pitcher plants later relocated there in an effort to save their
populations from being completely destroyed by construction.
