Akzonobel Coatings, Inc. - Hudson, Ohio 1996-2009
Formerly The Flood Company, the firm was purchased in 2006 by Akzonobel,
now the global leader in coatings manufacturing. Following the purchase,
industrial operations were distributed to other North American facilities.
Was paid through 2009 to manage the closure of the campus in 2008.
Operations Manager / Plant Manager
Directed all industrial operations-production, warehousing, and
distribution-at what was during most of tenure the central corporate campus
and manufacturing and distribution hub of The Flood Company. Created and
implemented standard operating procedures (SOPs) and best manufacturing
practices throughout the plant, Managed the full lifecycle of capital
projects, provided key input to weekly logistics and fulfillment planning,
and oversaw facility operations and equipment maintenance. Planned and
administered annual capital budgets, calculated potential return on
investment (ROI), and managed the full lifecycle of capital projects.
. Reduced average operating costs per gallon across the full product
line from $0.33 to $0.27 per gallon on 4.3 million gallons of over 100
stock-keeping units (SKUs).
. Initiated and implemented equipment upgrades and capital acquisitions
that enabled production increases ranging from 33% to 55% across
multiple SKUs, increasing one product line from 5,500 to 15,000
gallons per day.
. Initiated use of a 3rd party warehouse and order-fulfillment operation
to eliminate warehouse overcrowding and delays in order fulfillment.
. Achieved 98% first-pass quality results by creating and enforcing
manufacturing certification standards across the entire product line
in the first four years.
. Replaced non-certified employees with certified staff in electrical,
welding, construction, and industrial plumbing, allowing the firm to
discontinue use of external contractors for major equipment
installation projects and maintenance, reduced hourly costs from
$60.00 to $22.00, and generated monthly savings of almost $40,000.
Upgrading the maintenance staff resulted in automated uptime
increasing from less than 75% to more than 90%.
