PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
01/2009 - 06/2010: First Data Corporation, IT Consultant on a temporary
contract
Held full responsibility for an E-Commerce auto-reload system (created at
NBO) handling over a million reloads per year including ongoing operational
support, system and database administration as well as development and
implementation of new requested features. Created processes to migrate to
a new system including data migration to Oracle (developed PL/SQL to
transform data).
06/2007 - 01/2009: NBO Systems, Inc., Chief Information Officer (acting COO
Q3-Q4 2008, Q4 2007)
As CIO, responsible for software development, systems, and networking
including project management through the full SDLC and operational support
of existing systems. NBO offered products and solutions related to prepaid
cards including sales (E-Commerce, Call Center, PC-Based POS, POSA
terminals), order fulfillment, accounting, and general program management.
As COO, responsible for the call center, order fulfillment, and warehouse
operations during the holidays when operational activities were at their
peak.
. Enhanced our Auto-Reload solution for a major Canadian quick service
restaurant client including hands on website development and database
customization to handle nearly 1 million reloads per year. Also
developed Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode interfaces for
this client.
. Implemented a POSA (point of sale activation) solution for card sales
through small footprint Ingenico terminals using Ingenico's OpenEstate
Server and OpenEstate browser software.
02/2005 - 06/2007: NBO Systems, Inc., Director of Software Engineering
Responsible for software development through the full SDLC managing a small
team of developers, analysts, and database administrators. Also
contributed as a software engineer and database administrator.
. Key role in industry related CISP and PCI security compliance projects
both managing others and contributing database development and
administration skills.
. Led development of an important project to create a WebAPI allowing
clients access to ordering and fulfillment functions over the Internet
through Web Services (developed with ASP.NET and C#) rather than
needing to embed NBO's standard solution.
. Delivered an Internet based reload solution to a major client. Played
a key role in project management of final acceptance testing and move
to production as well as contributing design, software development,
and database development skills throughout the project.
03/1997 - 05/2005: NBO Systems, Inc., Senior Systems Analyst/Software
Engineer
Responsible as an individual contributor for software development through
many aspects of the SDLC including design, analysis, development, testing,
and release. Also handled database administration over much of this time.
. A primary contributor in the creation of software in 2001 that would
be core to NBO's primary products and services for the next eight
years including open-loop (Visa/MasterCard/Discover Network) prepaid
gift card systems for malls and shopping centers as well as a
fulfillment solution that offered Internet and call center direct to
consumer sales of open and closed-loop gift cards for many major
retailers and malls. Part of a small team that analyzed, architected,
developed, tested and delivered these solutions.
. Delivered important enhancements as part of ongoing process
improvement. Part of a team that improved order fulfillment,
involving picking and packing gift cards, to use a Kanban pull system
with continuous flow cells. The new system could easily handle
fulfillment of over 5,000 orders per day and offered capacity
expansion by simply adding more work cells.
. Optimized SQL queries, architecture and implemented general process
improvement to achieve maximum transaction throughput, minimize
blocking, nearly eliminate deadlocks and keep all of NBO's database
systems running smoothly under load.
. Developed many interfaces to third party processors to handle card
activation and load, balance and transaction history, and other
functions. These were typically web service clients written in C++.
Also developed or enhanced C++, Visual Basic, and TSQL credit card
interfaces to various credit card processors and gateways.
. Also a primary contributor in creation of a gift certificate system
(forerunner to the gift card system) that included sales through POS,
call center, and Internet as well as automated kiosk. The gift
certificate system also included order fulfillment, accounting and
other utilities.
. Prior to entering the gift certificate market in 1998, key contributor
as a software engineer in creating automated kiosks to sell tickets to
concerts and sporting events. Included development of software
utilizing sockets to communicate with third party ticketing company
and UI's created using Director.
10/1994 - 01/1997: Pacific HiTech, Inc. (became TurboLinux), Programmer
Responsible for software development, database administration, system
administration, and management of DOS/Windows/OS2 products.
. Key role as IIS administrator and SQL Server administrator in keeping
a very busy shareware game Internet archive running smoothly.
. Compiled content and wrote front-end GUI applications for many
successful shareware compilation CD-ROMS. Primary development tools
included Visual Basic and HyperCard (a Macintosh development tool
nearly identical to Director).
Spring/1993 - Fall/1994: University of Utah Computer Science Department.
Teaching Assistant
Responsible for assisting students in FORTRAN (2 quarters), Introduction to
UNIX (4 quarters), and Summer Computing Institute (1 quarter).
. Communicated effectively, easily able to transfer my subject knowledge
to students.
