Steer and direct all operations for this site. Identify opportunities and
implement solutions to drive improvements in efficiency, safety, quality
and delivery. 400 non-union associates are employed over four shifts on a
twenty-four hour, seven-day week. Products manufactured at this site
include printed paper rolls, PS labels and Thermal transfer ribbons
utilizing Oracle ERP systems.
Accomplishments have included:
- A 20% reduction in plant labor and overhead costs through a
comprehensive approach focusing on Lean tools and Key Performance
Indicator metrics.
- Leadership in the process of relocating the Canadian and Wisconsin
manufacturing facilities into the Morristown facility within a six
month time frame.
- A 50% reduction in the site OSHA recordable incident rate through
improvements to training, a strong H&S committee and program
awareness.
- 5% improvement in On Time Delivery performance resulting from on-going
improvements to the capacity planning process and regular review of
planning parameters.
- Institution of 5"S"and Lean into the culture through training and a
strong steering team presence.
- Development of Six Sigma through certification of several plant Green
Belts utilizing internal NCR resources.

As VP of Operations, led this organization through an extensive overhaul to
make it more attractive for sale to private investors. Tri Tech Labs is a
non-union 300-employee contract manufacturer of OTC & Personal Care liquid
products.
Accomplishments included:
- A reduction of plant headcount by 30% through a comprehensive review
of manpower, job task analysis, workforce redundancy and seasonal
loading.
- A 28% improvement in inventory accuracy by creating a cross-functional
work team to analyze transactional failure points and develop a system
of checks and balances.
- Successful site preparation and installation of SAP ERP systems
including automated warehouse applications.
- A 20% reduction in batch OOS results and resulting rework achieved
through a comprehensive review of compounder training, manufacturing
directions and mix tank consistency.
- Leadership of a successful multi-plant startup of a high volume
shampoo for Innovative Brands.

CCL Custom Manufacturing/KIK Custom Products - Memphis Plant
Full P&L accountability for this 330,000 sq ft, 330 employee, Teamsters
unionized facility. The Memphis Plant produces Personal Care and OTC
consumer products for leading multi-national marketers, including P&G,
Unilever, L'Oreal and J&J. Utilized a multi-pronged approach to turn the
Memphis plant around from a substantial loss to a profit position within
two years of taking over the facility. Aspects of this approach included:
. Implementation of cross-functional Continuous Improvement teams on
multiple production lines with a focus on increased Reliability
through employee involvement, teamwork and the use of Six Sigma/Lean
tools.
. Major plant initiatives to install fundamental maintenance systems,
including Preventive Maintenance, changeover center lining, an
improved mechanic screening program and formalization of the mechanic
training program.
. Establishment of KPI's for daily, weekly and monthly review. Weekly
KPI review meetings with the local leadership team.
. A long term Health and Safety strategy that relied heavily on a well
trained, vibrant H&S committee along with focus on root cause accident
investigation, safety audits and milestone rewards.
. Upgrades to the plant quality culture by leveraging a multitude of
customer quality system demands into a comprehensive overall quality
program. Some key elements of this approach included:
o Strict execution and enforcement of Self Improvement audits.
o Extensive on-going GMP and hygiene training and testing.
o Significant investment in water systems, sanitization processes
and equipment upgrades to meet Microbiological design
requirements.
o Measuring, reviewing and posting quality metrics.
On-going success of these processes resulted in the following additional
accomplishments:
. An overall direct labor cost reduction (on a per unit basis) of 50%
while doubling plant volume.
. A reduction in the plant OSHA recordable incident rate from over 8 to
less than one.
. A fully OTC compliant, GMP focused organization that achieved multiple
customer quality recognition awards and passed three FDA audits with
no 483's issued.
. Major business awards that included high profile consumer products
from Johnson & Johnson, Procter & Gamble, Playtex, Hewlett-Packard and
Unilever.
. Installation of JD Edwards ERP software.
