Objective
Seeking an opportunity to join a company in which I can demonstrate the
value of over twenty years experience in Accounting, Finance, Purchasing/
Receiving and Inventory Management to improve the operations and profits of
the organization.
Business Experience
Superior record of generating profits, improving operations and managing
inventories. Made suggestions and implemented innovative ideas to reduce
cost and improve the efficiency of the Firestone Tube Division, Reliable
Consolidation, Inc. and Cowart's Construction Company. These savings were
in excess of $5 million dollars.
Education- BA Arkansas Tech
1. Cowart's Construction Company - March 2008 to present

Prepare Journal entries, make trial balance and review monthly Income and
Profit/Loss statements for AR, LA, and KY with the owners. Make
recommendations on how to improve the company operations. Reconcile all
General Ledger accounts including SUTA, FUTA, State & Fed income taxes and
Workers Comp. Manage and control inventories. Insure fixed assets are
properly documented and classified properly. Determined which documents
needed to be accrued to insure accurate accounting. Negotiate better
pricing from vendors on materials and services. Developed an Excel program
to quickly and easily estimate profits on bid projects. Negotiated a
contract to use outside payroll services to process the payroll. Savings
generated for Cowart's $136,000
2. Reliable Consolidation April 2007- March 2008
Coordinator of Canadian Exports for Lowe's Hardware new store shelf
displays.
Contacted vendors to insure the Certificate of Origins were in compliance
with NAFTA requirements. Prepared all export documents and manifestos.
Worked closely with the Canadian import officials to insure all merchandise
cleared customs and were delivered to Lowe's by the scheduled due date.
Purchased supplies, equipment and services to insure production had all the
resources necessary to work efficiently. Saving generated over $100,000
Reason for leaving Reliable Consolidation: Due to the slowing economy,
Lowe's Hardware chose to delay opening additional Canadian store openings
until the economy improved.
3. Bridgestone/Firestone: (20+years) accounting and purchasing
A. Purchasing: Managed the purchasing and procurement of all raw materials,
supplies and services for the Russellville factory. Initiated, negotiated
and finalized a contract with the Russians in excess of $30 million dollars
which generated profits across all Bridgestone divisions. Reduced the Raw
Materials and stores inventories by $1,000,000. This was accomplished by
implementing a Just-In-Time inventory system. Selected by Bridgestone
management to visit Japan and study their factory production and
operations. Maintained accurate inventories, approved invoices, interacted
with engineering, accounting, dept managers and top management to insure
quality, price and service were meeting our expectations and standards.
Developed a new concept on purchase discounts, which was implemented in all
Bridgestone/Firestone locations.
B. Cost Accountant: (12 years) Created detail sheets with all cost elements
(MLOH) including waste, scrap and rework. Worked close with Quality
Control, IE and Production Mgrs to insure accurate cost were identified.
Explain variances from the budgeted Standards including excess material
usage, waste and scrap percentages. Developed a cost program for quickly
analyzing current cost for quotes on government contracts. Implemented a
program to cost out new incremental business using factors related to fixed
and variable OH. Priced out invoices at Standard and calculated the LIFO
reserve. Familiar with LIFO, FIFO and Avg Cost systems. Coordinated monthly
and annual physical inventories through various stages of factory
completion.
Created a program to bridge IE standard rates into the cost system.
Naturally this kept the cost sheets current and accurate for explaining
variances and bidding new jobs.
C. Factory Accountant: Made detailed analyses of General Ledger balances.
Assign proper account numbers to purchase orders. Prepare Balance Sheet,
Income Statements, and Current Assets to Current Liabilities ratios, Return
on Assets (ROA) Cash flow and P&L statements. Work with departmental
managers, Controller and General Manager to establish monthly and annual
budgets. Reconciled all General Ledger accounts.
D. Fixed Assets: Created General Ledger accounts to collect all cost
associated with the fixed asset cost. On completion of the project,
determined the correct method of depreciation and set up the appropriate
depreciation rates. Implemented an Excel program to use hypertext to link
fixed assets to pictures for the auditor's verification.
E. Accounts Payable/Receivable: Insured all invoices were properly matched
to the approved purchase order and receiving reports. Quickly resolved any
issues to insure cash discounts would be taken on time. Reviewed aging
reports and bank statements for old items needing immediate attention.
F. Payroll: Processed payroll for 450 employees, reconciled bank
statements, prepared quarterly 941a?s, 1099's, FUTA, SUTA, Workers Comp
reports, W-4 and annual W-2 forms. Interacted with Dept Managers to reduce
employee payroll shortages due to late timecards.
G. Software experience- Excel, Word, Access, Lotus, SAP, and IQ400. Very
strong background in Excel.
Reason for leaving Bridgestone/Firestone- Reduction in force. Due to
increased competition from imported tubes from China and Korea, they
eliminated 10% of the salaried staff.
