Responsibilities:
• Chief spokesperson for company bargaining team in Collective Bargaining.
• Develop and execute labor relations strategies in accordance with Company culture, values
and business needs (present and future) in collaboration with business unit and corporate
management and within legal guidelines.
• Investigate union unfair labor practice charges.
• Manage day to day labor relations.
• Company advocate in arbitrations.
• Build working relationships with union officials.
• Investigate claims of violations of employment laws, company policies and grievances.
• Partner closely with in-house and/ or outside legal counsel on strategies for responding to
discrimination complaints, arbitrations, employment litigation and other employment
complaints.
• Partner with HR staff and management to address claims/issues, recommend action and
establish future action plans as needed.
• Provide advice, guidance, recommendations, counsel and coaching to management, HR staff
and employees to effectively resolve complex employee relations and workplace issues,
including changes in business structure, work force reductions/additions,
mergers/acquisitions, and performance improvement issues.
• Ensure managers understand and apply sound Employee Relations practices to maintain an
equitable and positive work environment.
• Coordinate with in-house and/or outside legal counsel to assess the legal impact of adverse
impact analyses, WARN Act, FMLA, ADA, ADEA, NLRA and other federal, state and local
laws/regulations.
• Research and participate in the development of HR policies, practices and procedures.
Accomplishments:
• Negotiated 23 contracts without a strike, kept wages at or below budget, with language
improvements. Negotiated 4 initial Collective Bargaining Agreements. Negotiated 3 decision and
effects agreements. Unions involved with Teamsters 299, IAM, CWA, IBEW, USW and UAW.
• Lead and assisted with design of 10 representation campaigns without a loss. Lead and assisted
with design of 14 decertification campaigns with only 3 losses. Coordinated and lead 7
campaigns simultaneously in the Pittsburgh Region reducing union membership from 1, 023 to
330 employees in the Pittsburgh Region.
• Investigated over 75 union unfair labor practice charges.
• One of three facilitators nationwide appointed by Corporate to do union avoidance training.
• Investigated and responded to 25 EEOC complaints all resulting in a no cause finding. Also
mediated complaints.
• Facilitated Employee Free Choice Act training for 250 managers, supervisors and leads.
• Proactively support 24 non bargaining unit locations.
• Started-up two successful manufacturing facilities as acting plant manager. Negotiated purchase
and/or lease agreements. Negotiated training grants with states.
• Recruited and developed wage structure for a technical 200 employee call center to resolve
customer internet problems.
• Since the Sarbanes-Oxley Act in 2002, I have investigated over 50 associate complaints.
• Successfully closed the Satellite PrimeStar Division for merger with TCI. Closed the Southeast
Region to merge with the Southern Division.
• Assisted as team member to transition Jones, Media One and AT&T Broadband properties to
Comcast.
• Authored two complete employee handbooks from scratch.
