Substitute, Tuscaloosa County Schools [2010 present]
As a substitute for the county schools, I travel to all the middle schools and elementary schools in the area and
work as a classroom teacher in grades k 8 when classroom teachers must be out. I teach using the plans
left for me by the classroom teacher. When plans are not available, I use my knowledge of the grade level
curriculum and content to teach lessons relative to their benchmarks.
Nanny, for ages 3 months 5 years, several families [2003 2010]
The past seven years I have worked as a nanny for many families in the Tuscaloosa area in order to stay home
with my on two children.
Teacher, 4th grade, Northington Elementary, Tuscaloosa, AL [2001 2003]
I taught under the supervision of principal Missy Stephens as a fourth grade teacher. My first year at Northington, I

taught the literacy block to the accelerated group of readers and math to a heterogeneous group of students. The last
year at Northington, I again taught fourth grade but this time as the impact teacher. I was the fourth grade
representative. I also served as a CMT for Northington in conjunction with the University of Alabama. I also began the
orientation process to become a National Board Certified Teacher. I made the choice to take a break from teaching to
raise my own child in 2003. At Northington, I was a host to several student teachers. I worked as a member of the
Discipline Team, which was lead by university professor Dr. Marcie Rock. I also co hosted the economics club for
students with teacher, Lynn Evers.
Teacher, Stafford Global Studies Center, Tuscaloosa, AL [2000 2001]
I worked for principal Dorothy Richardson as a fourth grade homeroom teacher. During this time, I taught multi age

classes to grades 3 5 for a literature based social studies and language arts block. For mathematics, I taught my
homeroom students. My position came to an end with the closing of Stafford’s doors. At Stafford I was honored to
have my students make the Tuscaloosa News for their performance of The Mystery of the Gumdrop Dragon. I was
the author of the Fifth Grade News letter. I also had 12 students have their poetry published during this year at

Stafford in the Anthology of Poetry for Young Americans and seven others in a similar anthology. I also served as the
detention monitor for the 3 5th grades.
Teacher, Kindergarten, Whistler Elementary, Mobile, AL [1999 2000]
I taught for Alice Lewis at Whistler Elementary as a kindergarten teacher. As a teacher at Stafford, I worked on the

AIMS team, utilized the Talents Unlimited program and co wrote the School Improvement Plan, co wrote the grant for
the Beautification grant, as well as worked on co creating the school budget. I was a member of the Building
Leadership Team, as a SECME coach and member of the decorations committee. I also worked as a tutor in
Whistler’s after school program. I left Whistler to move to Tuscaloosa for my husband to work at the University of
Alabama as the Men’s Head Cross Country Coach.

At West End, I worked for principal Judy Radcliff as a second grade teacher. We taught using the Marie Carbo

Reading Styles Method and utilized Howard Gardner’s multiple intelligences for our plans. I left West End following
my husband to a job at the University of South Alabama in Mobile, AL.
Secretary, Meridian Community College Fitness Center, Meridian, MS [1996 1998]
I worked under the direct supervision of Michelle Cary, Athletic Director and head of the Fitness Center as a secretary

for the center. I performed secretarial duties and membership enrollment and acted as a customer representative for
the school.
Preschool Teacher/Daycare Worker, Highland Baptist CDC, Meridian, MS [1995 1998]
During my time at Highland I worked for Jesselyn Harper the director of the CDC. I cared for and taught children ages

1 2. I left Highland to complete my degree at the University.

Secretary/Human Resources/Sales, Carter Computer and Blueprinting, Meridian, MS [1995 1996]

As an employee for the Carter brothers I worked as the secretary/receptionist and human resource associate

for both the Carter business and occasionally worked business calls, etc… for the families other two business (which
were owned by Mrs. Carter and former Senator Brad Carter These were an architectural firm and a children’s clothing
business). I did clerical work such as maintaining inventories on a database, filing, answer calls, servicing customers,
bookwork, copies, blueprints, filing, etc… I left Carter Computer and Blueprinting in order to continue my degree. At
Carter my immediate supervision in store was Robbie McClure.
