Sr. Systems Engineer

Description: Wal-Mart runs a chain of large discount department stores and

a chain of membership required warehouse stores. It is the world's largest

public corporation by revenue and largest majority private employer. Wal-

Mart ISD is responsible for supporting apps that pertain to various Home

Office logistics and maintaining its acquired stores website.

Responsibilities:

. As a Sr. Systems Engineer, my primary responsibility is capacity

planning and infrastructure of hardware and supervising offshore

resources in handling the projects. I am also responsible for the

designing and allocation of resources for the projects.

. Supporting WebSphere Application Servers ND v 7.x and XD 6.x on AIX,

HP-UNIX, Z/OS and Suse Linux for high revenue Sam's CLUB and ASDA

websites.

. Am responsible for executing and rolling out of Money Gram application

Middleware - WebSphere Administrator

Description: Starwood is a collection of 10 luxury brands including W,

Westin, and Sheraton etc and has close to 1000 properties worldwide. Their

website allows visitors to check out the properties, view rates and

availability and make a booking. The project was outsourced to Accenture on

October 2009 and I was serving on behalf of Accenture at Starwood.

Responsibilities:

. Responsible for creating, troubleshooting, maintaining and documenting

the INT/QA/STG/PROD/DR environments for WebSphere version 6.1

clustered Cells for modules: Inventory, Rates, and Availability. All

these were part of our main project called Valhalla, which is a first

of its kind SOA implementation in the industry. I was responsible for

total of 380 PROD JVMs in Valhalla project.

. Along with Valhalla, was involved in maintenance and deployment of

another wing of project called SVO - Starwood Vacation Ownership which

is a website for agents of Starwood and is responsible for generation

of 30% of Starwood's online revenue. Websites under these were

These environments had classic 3-tier architecture with Sun iPlanet

webserver, WebSphere Application Server and Oracle DB as the backend.

. Involved in maintenance/deployment and making sure SLA of website

availability is 99.95% for our primary website www.starwoodhotels.com

. Involved in necessary security updates and maintenance of SSL

certificates for webserver - appserver communications. Also secured

the console by configuring it with Sun One LDAP server.

. Valhalla project had DataPower and MQ as the interconnecting devices

and were used for load balancing, so was responsible for setting up

close to 600 queues on WAS.

. Worked as secondary support for DataPower XI 50 and was responsible

for setting up load balancing groups and testing POC.

. Setup of VM-Ware (Windows 2008 on Linux) for development to use their

tools, including Windows administration.

. Was responsible for JBoss v.4.0.5 clustering and configuring datapower

end-points for Availability modules.

. Installation of Apache, Tomcat, iPlanet and IBM Http web-servers and

updating the configuration plug-in and maintaining proper

communication between web servers and JBoss /WebSphere App servers.

. Successfully migrated our apps from WebSphere version 5.1 to 6 and

recently are in process of migrating apps to version 7.0.

. Other project had classic architecture with Sun's iPlanet web-servers

followed by clustered WebSphere JVMs connecting to Oracle DB.

. We had Wily's Introscope as monitoring tool so was involved in setting

up Dashboards and setting up alerts for Valhalla engines and

configuring JVMs for Introscope.

. Valhalla was a developing system throughout the project so was

responsible to gather information about the crash, system reaction to

new build, finding RCAs along with generating and doing analysis of

java cores and heap dumps.

. Availability module had a backend connection to in-memory database

called "objectstore" which is third party software from Progress. I

was responsible for installing, maintaining and tuning objectstore.

. Experimented with installing and working on IBM Portal server version

6.1, Glassfish and ATG Dynamo to check out other technologies

prevalent in the market.

. Also participated in oncall rotation and supporting other Valhalla

engines including MQ support along with crit sit/war room support and

getting IBM help with PMRs.

. Other day-to-day activities included working with developers and

setting up small environments for their use, automating scripts for

their deployment, patching and WebSphere versions, which ranged from

5.0 to 7.0

IT Engineer - Systems Administrator

Description: Qualcomm is a wireless telecommunications research and

development company. IT department handles Qwiki and QTime applications,

which are used by the employees of Qualcomm worldwide along with websites,

which maintain their product versions.

Responsibilities:

. Qualcomm was in the process of setting up new Dev and Test clusters in

Las Vegas datacenter, on Linux and Sun Solaris boxes. I was the

primary for this activity and installed WebSphere 5.1 and updated the

patches on about 25 boxes.

. Was also responsible to migration activities from Websphere 5.1 to 6.0

version.

. Installed, maintain and administrate RHEL 4 (Nahant) including

maintaining users, setting up file systems and updating kernel to

necessary upgrade level.

. Installed Adobe Live Cycle Policy Server and set up queues for

communication with WebSphere Application Server.

. Was responsible for maintenance and deployment of existing and new

J2EE apps on WebSphere v 5.x and Tomcat v.5.5.4. Also responsible for

running generating reports for load test and performance test using

JMeter.

. Windows 2000, 2003 administration including setting up alerts and

installing third party software's.

. Installed and configured IBM WebSphere Commerce v5.6.1 on Sun solaris

boxes.

. Instrumented Quest's Foglight and Spotlight to monitor applications,

their load, load on servers and traffic flow. Responsible for setting

up the application and deploying the agents on each host to monitor

the load. Installed agents for WebSphere, Tomcat, documentum and web

servers. Also did the setup of dashboards for various applications and

setup alerts for production critical apps.

. Install IBM Http Server and Apache and update the plug-in for

WebSphere and also enable compression for wireless sites.

. Wrote scripts for day-to-day maintenance, system backup, system

generated alerts and disaster recovery.

. Daily activities included resolving tickets and maintenance of

applications. Also, dealing with vendors and 3rd parties to manage,

upload and troubleshoot their applications.

failed systems scenarios.

. Installing the certificates and installing SiteMinder to implement
