PROFESSIONAL OBJECTIVE
I am looking for a position that will allow me to put my prior experience
to use in a way that will be both beneficial to others and rewarding for
me.
EXPERIENCE HIGHLIGHTS
> Front Desk Receptionist and Retail Associate - 11/08 to present
Richmond SPCA. Richmond, VA
o I work both volunteer and paid shifts at the front desk and
retail shop at one of the country's most highly recognized no-
kill animal shelters. As receptionist, I greet potential
adopters, answer questions both in person and on the phone,
screen and transfer calls to administrative personnel,
electronically locate, copy and fax records, and provide
information to the public with concerns about their pets. In
the retail shop, I process transactions (cash, check or credit
card), assist customers with their purchases, enter inventory
and restock shelves, prepare deposits, and create daily
reconciliation reports.
> Customer Service Specialist and Sales Assistant 7/06 to 5/08
The Supply Room Companies, Inc. Ashland, VA
o As a member of the customer service team, I strived every day to
cheerfully assist callers with orders and payments, resolve
disputes, correct shipping errors, arrange for exchanges and
returns, and guide them through the selection of merchandise. I
was also paired with a sales representative to ensure that her
customers were given the best customer service possible. It was
up to me to procure special-order items, track down the status
of backordered or discontinued item, and make more in-depth
inquiries when someone's needs were not met in a timely manner,
following through until the matter was resolved.
> Executive Assistant 7/05 to 6/06
The Supply Room Companies, Inc. Ashland, VA
o I worked directly with the CEO, president, vice president and
CFO. My responsibilities included creating and maintaining
Excel databases; designing Powerpoint presentations; attending
weekly corporate meetings and compiling and distributing minutes
(much of which contained company-sensitive material) using
Microsoft Word; making domestic and international travel
arrangements; screening email and scheduling using Outlook; and
serving on several ad hoc committees.
> Administrative Assistant to the Newsroom 8/02 to 6/05
The Herald-Progress, Inc. Ashland, VA
o In addition to performing all receptionist and front office
duties single-handedly, I worked hand-in-hand with newsroom
personnel in preparing for the publication of a twice-weekly
county newspaper. This entailed copy-editing all community-
submitted items, maintaining church and monthly community
calendar databases, proof-reading, and writing my own weekly by-
lined column. On busy days, I also handled overflow from the
classified advertising desk.
> Veterinary Receptionist 6/92 to 7/94
Crawford Animal Hospital, West Allis, WI
o I worked closing shift at a three-veterinarian practice with
four-line telephone system. Most of shift worked solo, answering
phones, making appointments and greeting patients. Cleaned exam
rooms and prepared vaccinations for injecting. Reconciled
receipts and cash drawer each evening, secured building, checked
on pets in hospital before leaving.
