Chemicals - U.S. Northwest
Responsibilities: Managing several accounts within the Pulp and
Paper Industry in the Northwest selling specialty chemicals to
improve production goals within the mills. Increased account
volume and developed business opportunities through strategic
sales, identifying solutions for customer issues, and expanding on
networking opportunities as they arose. Successfully Maintained
and expanded existing customer base.
April 2006 - October 2007: Shift Supervisor - Emerald Kalama Chemical -
Kalama, WA.
Responsibilities: Oversee all operational and personnel aspects of
this diversified chemical manufacturing facility while on shift.
Various equipment at the facility included: several boilers, water
treatment facilities, effluent treatment facilities, pumps, valves,
control valves DCS systems, and a wide array of instrumentation
used to monitor and control the complex chemical systems. Fulfill
the role of Incident Commander during emergencies. Other duties
include: holding safety meetings, payroll, maintenance
coordination, and timely environmental reporting in the event of a
release. Worked as process engineer on shift to improve efficiency
and operations of the plant.
July 2003 -April 2006: Process Safety Management Coord. for Georgia
Pacific - Wauna
Responsibilities: Coordinate the mill-wide effort to comply with
OSHA Process Safety Management regulation. Lead Incident
Investigations when needed. Advise and guide department
superintendents to their responsibilities for Process Safety
Management. Implement new corporate-wide chemical safety policies
such as the EPA's General Duty clause and the Chemical Reactivity
safety program. Specific duties included the successful
development of document control and updating system to provide for
ready use of files and ease of audits of the program. Developed a
program to provide for the safe delivery of bulk chemicals to the
facility.
May 1999 - July 2003: Team Leader and Day, Safety, and Maintenance
Coordinator for Georgia Pacific - Wauna
Responsibilities: Supervise crews in the Kraft Mill, Bleach Plant,
and Recaust area of the mill as Day Coordinator. Perform safety
walkthroughs and hold safety meetings and training for the crews as
Safety Coordinator. Coordinate PSM activities and work to ensure
compliance. Supervise preparation for shutdowns and coordinate
production needs with the maintenance department as Maintenance
Coordinator. Supervised crews and operations in the Steam Plant,
Kraft Mill, Bleach Plant, and Secondary Treatment as Shift Team
Leader.
June 1995 - May1999: Production Foreman for Longview Fibre Co.
Responsibilities: Recovery Foreman, supervised an operating crew
of the chemical recovery department of the mill. Responsible for
the operation and on shift maintenance of the equipment. Process
equipment included recovery furnaces, lime kilns, evaporators and
slakers. Pulping Foreman, supervisor of a crew of ten people
responsible for operating pulp mill equipment including: Kamyr &
batch digesters, continuous Kraft sawdust cookers, one NSSC cooker
and four operating washer lines. Coordinated pulp mill production
with projected paper mill stock draws by scheduling cooks and
maintaining correct pulp mill production rates. Assistant Stock
Foreman, in charge of all of the wet end additives on six of the
paper machines. Adjusted additive additions to meet quality
standards. Supervised crews that operate stock systems. Process
Engineer, worked on technical projects including: The study of the
chemical contents of non-condensable digester blow gases and how to
handle them more effectively. Wrote up to date operation manuals
for the air quality control systems for each of the lime kilns.
Worked on a procedure for the acid wash of both Kamyr digesters.
