1992 - 2009

Vice President of Operations (COO)

Promoted in 1997 from General Manager after the successful turnaround of this $60 million, 500 headcount, manufacturer of class I medical devices. Responsible for all manufacturing groups, materials, warehousing, distribution, new product development, IT, quality assurance, human resources, and all finance and accounting groups. (Responsible for 1,250 SKU’s, 92% of headcount, and approximate operational budget of $40 million.)

1. ROI : In less than three years return on investment increased from 4% to 34% during a period of flat sales.

2. Plant Startups: Planned coordinated and implemented the establishment of two new manufacturing facilities in Mexico and China for low cost labor and material procurement.

3. Supply Chain: Restructured the distribution network and closed two warehouses, increased inventory turns from 4 to 10 while increasing service level from 65% to 97%.

4. COGS: Reduced the costs of goods by over 15% while adding additional benefits and increasing hourly compensation.

5. ERP Implementation: Identified the parameters for and implemented an ERP system that improved order entry, billing, inventory accuracy, product forecasting, and material availability that improved customer service by over 30%.

6. R&D: Developed a New Products group that introduced new products in the last three years that accounted for 25% of all sales.

7. Product Line Rationalization: Restructured the product offering by reducing the number of catalog items from 1,200 to 500 with no effect to overall customer satisfaction of sales dollars.

8. ISO: Completed ISO 13485 for all three manufacturing facilities.

Baxter Healthcare Corporation, Valencia, CA

1979 to 1992

Manufacturing Planning Manager – Valencia, CA (1985 – 1992)

Responsible for the top level planning and distribution of Pharmaseal Surgical Division products with manufacturing operations in eight plants in three countries. Managed a finished goods inventory of $25 million distributed through 45 domestic warehouses.

1. Plant Startup: Planned and implemented all material and operational related activities for a plant start-up in northern Mexico within budget and three months ahead of schedule.

2. Restructuring: Lead the operational planning of the closure of three manufacturing operations and the transfer of over 500 catalog items to new locations. This was a project that took over 18 months and was completed on time and within budget.

Materials Manager – Toa Alta, Puerto Rico (1982 – 1985)

Managed production and inventory control, purchasing, warehouse and systems groups with 47 people and a $1.8 million budget. Responsible for all material operations in a plant with a population of over 800, a raw material inventory of $12.5 and a value of production of $95 million.

1. MRP Installation: Installed the corporate MRP system that tracked inventory, forecasted product sales, and guided material ordering for future production.

2. Project Managment: Managed the implementation of a new product line that included a sterile water packaging system and incorporation into a line of suction catheters.

Manufacturing Planning Analyst – Irwindale, CA (1981 – 1982)

Master scheduled and coordinated material logistics for two major product lines consisting of 150 finished good products. Responsibilities included service level of products to customers, activity levels for 300 people, and in-process inventories.

1. Manufacturing Process: Reorganized the product flow of a major product line that reduced inventory by over $3 million and decreased manufacturing lead time by over two weeks.

Manufacturing Department Supervisor – Irwindale, CA (1979 – 1981)

Managed a production group of 140 associates operating on a three shift basis engaged in the manufacturing and packaging of disposable urological products in a FDA regulated industry. Responsible for an operating budget of $3.1 million and a cost of goods of $20 million.
