Prior Employment

I've also worked as a waitress at Bob's Big Boy, a bartender at the NCO club at Davis Monthan, a

leasing agent for a local apartment complex, an in home nursing assistant, a part time library

clerk, and as a receptionist/personal assistant for Adams Fire Protection Company, the latter job

being held around 1977. The position included running blueprints downtown, answering incoming

phones, and general office/secretarial work. In 1984, I had the chance to travel back to Virginia to

reconnect with my father after 25 years, so I had a short break in my employment record. I have

also worked in retail, including a women's clothing store in Park Mall when the mall first opened!

My current position as a volunteer with Handi Dogs provides me with unparalleled fulfillment, both

personally and professionally. I am amazed at how resilient the human spirit is, especially when

presented with physical limitations. My experience with this organization has humbled me more

than any challenge I have personally encountered.

Some of the most important aspects of being a police dispatcher, regardless of the agency, were

being flexible, customer service, and a willingness to learn new things. These qualities were put to

the test constantly, such as whenever our radio consoles would crash, or our computers failed, or

whenever we had to implement new policies and procedures, often without any advance warning

or training. Most police dispatchers I know are able to handle well above average stress, have

excellent customer interaction, and have an ability to bounce back from the abyss of confusion

that is well above the norm. The job required that I be able to communicate effectively within and

outside of the agency, multi task, deal with challenges on a daily basis, be flexible with my work

hours and my job parameters, maintain confidentiality, team work, and the willingness to learn

something new! I believe these qualities are applicable to just about any job opportunity which will

come my way.
