COMMUNITY SERVICES
( TTSM (Tomorrow's Teachers in Science and Mathematics): This is a
student organization that provides support for students with
science and mathematics major who are planning to enter the
teaching field with professional connections, tutoring positions
for middle and high school students in the riverside community,
and education mentors.
. The Copernicus Project: I volunteered at SUCCES Day in 2008,
which a one day event provide information on college admissions
and financial aid, a tour of UCR, and hands-on science
activities for local middle and high school students. I also
volunteered at Science Education Summit in 2007 and 2008, which
is a one day convention revolving around student motivation,
improving science outcomes, and engaging a culturally diverse
student body in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and
mathematics) fields.
. ALPHA Center: I attended Science Quest in 2008, which is a one
week academy that will foster an integrated approach to teaching
science with emphasis on current science topics with a hands-on
approach.
. MESA (Mathematics Engineering Science Achievement) program at
UCR: I volunteered to assists students at middle and senior high
schools on their field trip to UC Riverside to explore the many
possibilities in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and
mathematics) education
. Attended CTA/NEA Rural Issues Conference in 2009 and STEP
(Science and Technology Education Partnership) conference in
2008 and 2009
. SMI (Science and Mathematics Initiative): I participated in this
new UC program since 2005. This program initiated by an
agreement between the Governor of California and the University
of California President to increase the number of highly
qualified teachers in science and mathematics.
( Member of SHARP (Student Homeless Aid Relief Project): student
organization that encourages a proactive approach to helping the
community by providing food, clothing and hygiene products for
the homeless of the Riverside community.
