v SUMMARY
I am well versed in oral, written, leadership, sales and
managerial skills. In addition, I have held numerous
educational, management, Journalism, Media and Television
positions throughout my work history. I have completed my
Advanced Education with a Master's Degree. I also hold 30
graduate level credits in Scriptwriting, News Writing,
Leadership, Advertising, Marketing, Public Relationd and
Broadcasting and Communication classes from Grand Valley
State University. All course work on a graduate level earned
a 4.0.
v WORK HISTORY
8/7/97- Present: Dept. Head of Communications Dept. and Telecommunications
Teacher at Rockford High School. Built this Emmy Award
winning and Michigan Association of Broadcaster's "Station of
the Year" Telecommunications program from the ground up. I
am responsible for teaching Television Production,
Scriptwriting, Film, Communications, Marketing, and Mass
Media courses to 10th-12th graders. I have also been involved
in implementing Arts programs after school in Theater, Video
Production, and Dance. The state of Michigan uses the
curriculum that I developed for Language Arts/Communications.
The program has won numerous Communication awards of
excellence at a local, regional, national and international
level.
10/90-8/4/97: Manager of Marketing Services and Community Affairs
at WOOD-TV 8 and WOTV-41. Management position responsible for
marketing and promoting all station projects, community and
public relations, production, writing, sales projects, and
editing of public affairs programming, on-air events, and
promotional campaigns. Produced and hosted The Children's
Miracle Network Telethon and worked with all of the non-
profit groups in the West Michigan community. I also was
the on-air talent, anchor, feature reporter, writer and
announcer for this dept.
Education Reporter at WOOD-TV 8- Wrote,
edited, produced, and reported on education issues for" Live
at 5:00 News" and "Daybreak News in the morning." Won
numerous awards from the MEA, NEA, and national awards from
broadcast organizations, AWRT and The Gracie Allen Award.
8/7/97-Present Entertainment and "Broadcast Notes" Reporter for the
Grand Rapids Press. I write a weekly column that centers on
radio and television for the Grand Rapids Press as well as
other entertainment issues. I have also written numerous
scripts for plays, commercials, documentaries, public service
announcements and web site development.
8/7/96-Present Adjunct college teacher in Communications, Marketing,
Journalism and Media for Grand Rapids Community College and
Grand Valley State University. I have taught Public
Relations, Scriptwriting, Broadcasting, On-Air Talent
development, Radio and Television Production, Journalism,
Public Speaking, Perception, Sales & Marketing and Non Verbal
Communications.
7/84-10/90 Executive Broadcast Producer/Director for Johnson
& Dean Advertising. Coordinated, directed, wrote, and
produced television and radio spots for Michigan's largest
retailer Meijer, medical, colleges, public relations and
financial clients. I also served as the New Business Sales
Coordinator responsible for making sales presentations and
marketing plans to prospective clients.
7/81-7/84 Feature Reporter and Executive Producer for PM
Magazine at WZZM-TV 13. Responsible for producing, writing,
editing, and set up of daily shows and feature stories for
this popular, nightly national television show. I also
served as the feature reporter for the show. I managed a
staff of six.
9/80-6/81 Television Worker at public television-WGVU-TV 35.
Duties included announcer, on-camera talent, Development
Directing, scriptwriter and reporter for local programming.
9/78-9/80 Teacher for West Bloomfield High School and
Whitmore Lake High School in the areas of Broadcasting,
Communications, Scriptwriting, English, Acting, Remedial
Reading, and Radio News. Director of theatrical productions,
coach of sports and extracurricular activities. I also
worked with high-risk students.

DEGREES: Bachelor of Science from Central Michigan
University in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Graduated in December
of 1977. I am certified to teach 7th-college grades.
Majors: Communications, Theater, and Broadcasting
Minors: English and Remedial Reading-Secondary
Masters Degree-- received from Western Michigan University in
December of 2003. This was an extensive 55 credit Masters
Degree program with an internship and field practicum.
I also hold 30 additional credits from Grand Valley State
University and Aquinas College in Scriptwriting, Public
Relations/Marketing, Newswriting, Communications, and
Broadcasting. I served an internship at WOOD-AM 1300 radio
as well.
