PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Research Assistant
Brigham Young University (Provo, UT) 9/2004-Present
• Design the mask and fabricate silicon TEM grids using deep reactive ion etching
• Characterize LPCVD silicon thin films by Ellipsometry, FTIR, XPS and TEM
• Develop the solar cell mask by e-beam lithography and ICP RIE
• Design the mask and make the pattern by optical lithography
• Develop a catalyst layer by depositing alumina (e-beam evaporator) and iron (thermal evaporator)
• Lift-off to make a patterned catalyst layer
• Grow carbon nanotubes (CNTs) on the patterned catalyst layer by the chemical vapor deposition (CVD)
• Infiltrate silicon to CNTs by LPCVD or sputter to synthesize silicon-carbon core-shell nanotubes (SiCNTs)
• Analyze SiCNTs by using SEM, Raman, TEM, and electron energy loss spectra (EELS)
• Perform the electrochemical tests for SiCNTs by Maccor system
• Fabricate thin layer chromatography (TLC) plates by a thermal oxidization of SiCNTs on the substrate
• Perform chemical separation on the TLC plates
• Convert SiCNTs to SiCNWs by a thermal annealing in various gaseous environments
• Analyze of SiCNWs by SEM, Raman, TEM, EELS, and performed photoluminescence to SiCNWs
