Dear Sir or Madam:
Please allow this letter to introduce me for employment consideration. I have earned a Bachelor of Arts, in Zoology, from Miami
University. My life experiences, combined with my mathematical, molecular, chemical, and physiological training, as well as my
commitment to learning and excelling, help prepare me for the career that lies ahead. I am looking for a change; I would like to move on
from science related fields. I really enjoyed, and was proficient at, the Night Audit position I held during college. I am confident I
would enjoy and excel in a business management setting.
In college, when I worked as a Night Auditor for Comfort Suites, I balanced the day’s transactions and checked it for errors. In addition,
I managed the front desk and attended to customer service duties; with routine check-ins and outs, and sales including up selling. I had
other responsibilities such as cleaning, setting up the breakfast bar, and laundry. I became proficient in the use of the Choice Hotels
computer network. I am looking for a position where I can apply the customer service skills I have acquired, and the math and auditing
skills I have developed at both the hotel and the bank, as seen on my resume.
My other skills involve lab training. My work experiences have taught me to be prompt, accurate, precise, and to handle many tasks at
once. I am proficient with many lab techniques and tools, from titrations and IR spectroscopy, to measurements, and distillations. I am
also proficient at calculating results and able to use computer software to enter data. I understand the importance of proper labeling and
documentation of obtained data. I work well alone and can be a self-starter, but I also have the ability to work well in a group to
accomplish a common goal. I believe team work is an essential part of any successful working environment.
Recently, I have been employed as a Lab Technician for the City of Cincinnati, Metropolitan Sewer District. This position has given me
the opportunity to gain experience in Quality Analysis. I have further developed skills of accuracy and precision. I have learned many
wastewater analyses from total solids and suspended solids to biological oxygen demand analysis, and microbiology coliform assay. Due
to health limitations, I was restricted to a sedentary job and completed data input for MSD.
Prior to my employment at the City of Cincinnati, I attended school, and worked a shorter Lab Technician position for Adecco Technical,
working on site at Procter and Gamble (Miami Valley Innovation Site). This position allowed me to gain experience and further develop
my skills in scientific writing, calculation of formulas, and some wet chemistry techniques. I developed skills in a corporate laboratory
setting performing wet chemistry techniques such as Dimethyl Sulfoxide solubility testing, mass spectrometry, forming solutions and
much more. In addition, I sharpened my skills using excel, chemical drawing programs, and various databases.
During my assignment at Procter and Gamble I have learned “the power of the people.” Procter and Gamble is different from other
places I have worked; the people at Procter and Gamble enjoy what they do, they are there for innovation and further development of the
company. Like Procter and Gamble I care about the consumers and I want a position that will have a role in the lives of individuals.
Please consider my qualifications and know that I am excited to begin this path of my life and I look forward to joining your team.
Sincerely,
LeeAnn F. Cundiff-Shaw
