Professional Experience
Business owner
1986 to Present The Music Company (piano studio)
Cordell, OK
I have owned and operated a music studio since 1986,
specializing in piano pedagogy. Piano was the principle
instrument in my music degree. The 'Studio' averages 44
students attending a private, one-on-one weekly lesson.
The mission for my studio is:
To offer high-quality piano pedagogy in a rural area, where
access and participation in the arts is limited.
To expose students to art forms outside their chosen
interests, such as attending the Oklahoma Summer Arts
Institute performances.
To offer students performance opportunities.
Office Manager
May 2008 to July 2010 Advanced Horizontal Directional
Drilling, LLC Cordell, OK
My responsibilities at this company were:
To establish procedures that would accommodate the rapid
growth from three employees to twenty-one: created an
updated accounting system and human resources system,
hired and supervised an assistant to maintain Department of
Transportation requirements.
With only occasional oversight, I implemented and managed
this three million dollar annual budget by entering all
routine accounts payable and receivables, reconciled bank
statements, created invoices, created cash flow charts,
created payroll, etc.
Payroll duties included keeping time logs, issuing payroll
checks, submitting accountability reports to proper tax
authorities, and proficiency in QuickBooks software
Human resource responsibilities included employee
applications, recording drug test results, and benefits.
Customer service duties were to create a welcoming,
professional environment for customers, vendors and
employees. This attitude was conveyed in all
communication, whether by phone, written correspondence, or
in person.
Employer Liaison and Foreign Student Liaison
June 2007 to May 2008 Apex USA, Inc. Clinton, OK
Apex USA is a J-1 Sponsorship company.
My responsibilities at this company were:
To locate and maintain a clientele of American employers
who were interested in using the J-1 Summer Work Travel
program for their seasonal staffing needs.
To negotiate a fair job contract between the employer and
the visiting foreign student in which both parties would
benefit. These contracts covered the issues of wage,
housing, and transportation. The contract gave the student
the contact information of their American employer, and all
the information he/she would need to arrive in the U.S.
(and then their place of employment) with minimal
difficulties.
To be accessible to all employers and visiting students 24
hours a day by emergency cell phone. This responsibility
demands an ability to negotiate a plethora of social,
cultural and employment issues.
To travel abroad to conduct personal interviews with the
students.
To have a genuine respect for other cultures
Apex USA also employed 20-30 foreign students locally, in
Clinton, OK. My responsibilities concerning these students
were:
Student arrival orientation, covering the issues and
concerns they may face while in a foreign country.
All human resource documentation (Forms I-9, W-4, W-2 and
Social Security)
To assure comfortable, clean housing for the students
(landlord type duties)

was economic development through the revitalization of the
historic district of the city.

Legislature and many other organizations to explore
possibilities for economic development in rural Oklahoma.
To present these suggestions to a Board of Directors who
could implement them.

nationally known corporations, with attendance at state and
national conferences, and with speaking engagements at
local civic clubs.
