Experienc April 2010–present Federal Contractor Washington, DC
e Project Manager for a Nationwide Federal Government Training Facility
Supervised a contract staff of 12–15 people at a federal training center that conducts
classes for approximately 15,000 students annually.
Managed instructional and logistical staff responsible for all aspects of instruction and
delivery, from the initial content analysis of potential new courses to the shipping of
course materials and the identification of instructors.
Introduced policies for leave, travel, employee evaluation, tracking, and quality control;
introduced standard operating procedures with accompanying job aids to streamline
processes and improve efficiency.
Designed systems to bring the facility into compliance with Freedom of Information Act
(FOIA), including the reorganization and digital archival of decades of paper records;
implemented procedures to ensure Americans with Disabilities Act compliance,
including the introduction and development of closed captioning systems for hearing
impaired students.
Introduced stability and order to a contract on the verge of non renewal as the seventh
different Project Manager hired in the first six months of the contract; was informed by
the Contracting Officer’s Technical Representative that my actions, alone, as Project
Manager saved my company from losing its contract.
Established an environment of support, accountability, collegiality, open
communication, and trust with the Federal client and the contract staff despite
challenging circumstances, transforming what employees described as a “hostile work
environment” into a productive workplace.
2003–April 2010 ABCTE Washington, DC
Director of Candidate Preparation for Online Learning Company
Designed and produced entire catalog of online curricular content for non profit
alternative teacher certification company, including extensive coursework in the
following subjects: English language arts, mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics,
special education, history, elementary education, and reading acquisition.
Constructed comprehensive mentoring program for new teachers, whether certified by
ABCTE or via traditional means, that will be adopted by no less than five states by the
end of 2010.
Wrote, directed, filmed, and edited online teacher pedagogy course entitled Prepare to
Teach that established ABCTE as a legitimate, content based route of alternative
teacher certification; the course also led to adoption of ABCTE teacher certification in
Oklahoma, Missouri, and Mississippi.
Produced learning and training materials that increased sales by $600,000 in four
years.
Hosted and produced free, bimonthly audio podcast entitled The New Teacher Hotline
(www.newteacherhotline.com), which provided dependable and time tested advice to
new teachers, answering their phone calls and emails.
Maintained high productivity and high morale among employees as a supervisor.
Conducted compelling live events to train and prepare teaching candidates.

Wrote books for the Complete Idiot’s Guide, Cliffs Quick Review, and For Dummies
series.
Proposed new book series entitled The Humongous Books to Alpha Books, a division
of Penguin Publishing. They approved the series, which has grown to four titles and
consistently constitutes at least two of the top five sell through titles for Alpha Books
each month.
Accumulated sales of more than 311,000 books since the year 2000.
Developed substantial skills editing, refining, and laying out text; can produce
professional print ready files given only basic text files with which to start.

Trained faculty to incorporate instructional technologies into their classes, including:
Macromedia Flash, Dreamweaver, Microsoft Office, and PDAs.
Designed and wrote my own training manuals and support materials for all training
sessions.
Acted as Office of Information Technology (OIT) liaison, supporting OIT goals and
directives, including training for (and migration of) faculty and staff to new email
system.
Modeled appropriate use of technology by establishing instructional/tutorial website
www.calculus help.com via methods I outlined in my faculty web design course.
Despite no new content in the nearly seven years since I completed my job at the
College of Education, the site still records nearly 1,000 unique visitors each day.

Trained all district mathematics teachers in new technology, including graphing
calculators and electronic grade book software.
Promoted to department chair at age 28, despite the fact that I was the youngest
member of the department.
Taught calculus, geometry, trigonometry, and algebra to an academically diverse
population of high school and community college students.
Received numerous teaching awards from local organizations, including Outstanding
High School Mathematics Teacher from the Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative
and Outstanding High School Teacher from the Maryland Council of Teachers of
Mathematics.
