Lead engineer for multiple domain migrations, using Quest Software, to
migrate email, users, computers, public folders, etc. from Exchange 2000
and 2003 on servers in legacy domain to Exchange 2003 in new domain for the
state of Virginia. All legacy domains were collapsed and consolidated
within the new cov.virginia.gov domain. Many users logged onto stand-alone
domains at remote sites that had never replicated with the domain at the
central office. Troubleshot various situations, including issues where
users who needed to connect remotely to their programs by using Citrix.
Settings in Citrix Farm needed to be updated, replacing a legacy IP address
with FQDN. I submitted information to Security team, requesting a list of
specified ports to be opened, allowing connectivity from workstations to
target domain controllers, Exchange servers, Citrix and other application
servers. Updated DHCP with new DNS, WINS addresses. Created and edited
GPOs, for example, to remove folder redirection as well as offline
file/folder synchronization for all desktop users at a particular agency.
This alleviated bandwidth congestion because user's files such as pictures
and music were being synchronized every time upon logon and logoff.
Solution was to allow only official files/folders on the on the network H:
drive share. This also reduced time for backups.
