Duties included everything involved with accurate boating operations.

Preparing for departure included checking the oils, turning on the engine,

cleaning the vessel, going over any necessary duties and security updates

with the crew, going over any needed drills from fire to man over board,

putting the vessel in gear, singling up, and putting down the gang-plank.

While boarding the vessel it was important to keep an accurate tally of all

persons on board while keeping an eye out for any possible security

concerns. While underway duties included general clean up and maintenance

of the vessel, continuing to provide security for both the vessel and the

passengers, as Senior Deck-hand my duties also included keeping accurate

logs of passengers, crew, and any other necessary item in line with Coast

Guard regulations, driving the vessel if needed, insuring the Captain's

orders were accurately handed to the correct deck-hand, and ensuring proper

boating procedure and operations. While docking the vessel and unloading

the passengers duties included docking with safety for the vessel and

passengers in mind, tying up the vessel if needed, setting down the gang-

plank, and ensuring all passengers exit the vessel safely and securely.

After all passengers had exited the duties included security sweeps of the

boat to ensure all passengers and items had exited the vessel, cleaning the

vessel, and preparing for the next run.

During the off-season, while working at the shipyard, duties where to clean

and prepare all the vessels in the fleet for the next season. These duties

where quite extensive and included grinding any rust, priming the vessels,

repainting, cleaning and maintaining the bilges, holds, holding tank,

engine room, and any other duties that might have been assigned for special

projects.
