The Birmingham Zoo, Birmingham, AL

Over 8 years of experience working with the Primates at the Zoo and

demonstrated ability to provide quality care to the zoo animals. Daily

duties involve managing the care of a variety of primate species --

including training, enrichment, animal observation, enclosure

maintenance, emergency protocols, medication administration, and

veterinarian assistance. Training includes maintenance behaviors of all

primates and implementation of new positive reinforcement training

programs for Squirrel monkeys and Lemurs. As Zoological Manager of

Primates (June 15, 2003-April 4, 2008): recruited and trained new

personnel on daily husbandry; facilitated departmental meetings and

continuous assessments of husbandry, protocols, and documentation

procedures; planned staff duties for animal medical procedures; trained

staff on effective animal restraint for medical procedures; assisted

Curator with animal collection development and planning. Participated

in the post-op care of the first captive gorilla to successfully

receive a cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) device.

Monitored/medicated injured/sick animals and participated in

Prepared animal diets for various marsupials and cleaned animal

enclosures. Helped catch and handle wallabies for blood extraction,
