Primate Keeper and Zoological Manager Feb. 2002 - Present

The Birmingham Zoo, Birmingham, AL

Over 8 years of experience working with the Primates at the Zoo and

demonstrated ability to provide quality care to the zoo animals. Daily

duties involve managing the care of a variety of primate species --

including training, enrichment, animal observation, enclosure

maintenance, emergency protocols, medication administration, and

veterinarian assistance. Training includes maintenance behaviors of all

primates and implementation of new positive reinforcement training

programs for Squirrel monkeys and Lemurs. As Zoological Manager of

Primates (June 15, 2003-April 4, 2008): recruited and trained new

personnel on daily husbandry; facilitated departmental meetings and

continuous assessments of husbandry, protocols, and documentation

procedures; planned staff duties for animal medical procedures; trained

staff on effective animal restraint for medical procedures; assisted

Curator with animal collection development and planning. Participated

in the post-op care of the first captive gorilla to successfully

receive a cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) device.

Provided daily animal care to common marmoset colony.

Monitored/medicated injured/sick animals and participated in

veterinarian procedures. Maintained weekly consultation with United

Kingdom personnel. Trained and supervised new personnel on daily

husbandry tasks.

Marsupial Research Center Volunteer Fall 1999

Marsupial Cooperative Research Center, North Sydney, Australia

Prepared animal diets for various marsupials and cleaned animal

enclosures. Helped catch and handle wallabies for blood extraction,

and micro-chipping.

Zoo Volunteer Winter break, 1997/1998 school year

Ochsner Park and Zoo, Baraboo, WI

Devoted three weeks of husbandry to capuchin monkeys, goats, llamas,

waterfowl, white-tailed deer, and prairie dogs. Learned proper

entry/exit procedures of exhibits and caution necessary around captive

wildlife
