ServiceMaster - Memphis, Tennessee 2002-2010

A commercial and residential service company whose brands-TruGreen,

TruGreen LandCare, Terminix, American Home Shield, ServiceMaster Clean,

Merry Maids, Furniture Medic, and AmeriSpec-generate more than $3.2B in

annual revenues. The company, which has over 35,000 employees in more than

800 locations in U.S and Canada, was purchased recently by a private-equity

firm.

Vice President, Employee Relations, 2006-2010

Led a strategically aligned Center of Excellence focused on channeling

resources to manage all employee relations and HR-compliance services for

the family of companies. Managed internal and external compliance

initiatives such as EEO, DOL, OFCCP, ICE, NLRB and HR Compliance Line.

Developed and implemented policies and procedures for preventive programs

to contain compliance costs and maintain a union-free organization.

Supervised a team of 16 that included 7 direct reports and managed a

budget of $2.2 million. Developed and supported diversity initiatives and

employment screening processes that included drug test, criminal

. Led the HR realignment to migrate from independent business-brand HR

conciliations agreements, managed through three such agreements and

. Designed HR audit, wage-and-hour and compliance process enhancements

branded electronic access and print on demand for corporate HR

documentation to save more than $200,000 annually in printing costs.

. Created four Regional Employee Relations Manager positions to resolve

HR compliance, staff retention, benefits, training, recruiting, and

employee recognition for corporate and 200 field locations. Supported HR

management for more than 40 franchise owners via the franchise advisory

U.S. Office Products / Corporate Express - Memphis, TN 1999-2002

A business-to-business office supply and furniture sales distribution and

retail business that was acquired by Corporate Express in 2001.

Regional Vice President - Human Resources

Managed all HR generalist programming in a 7-state region with 20 locations

and annual sales of more than $230 million and more than 2,000 employees.

Directly supervised two Regional HR Managers and two Payroll Managers, as

well as an annual HR budget of approximately $500K. Put in place a complete

set of HR standards that included standards for performance metrics,

policies and procedures, HR compliance, staffing and retention, benefits,

and training.

. Championed an AR/DSO Project Team that developed processes to manage

cash flow and invoice payment improvements of approximately $1.2

. Led the integration and liquidation of assets in the $230 million

Southeast Region following the acquisition of U.S. Office Products by

Corporate Director - Human Resources

Top Human Resources Leader responsible for establishing and staffing HR

department and full generalist functionality during a turnaround operation

for this troubled company. Recruited and supervised a team of 7, including

the managers of HR, Safety & Health, Compensation/Payroll, Labor/Employee

Relations and Recruiting/Benefits. Led an HRIS conversion that included

paperless time and attendance recordkeeping. Assisted with planning and

made presentations to facilitate the company's move toward a "spin-off"

acquisition.

. Established new-hire screening and performance testing that reduced

turnover from 102% to 50% and absenteeism rates from 12% to 1.8%,

saving more than $1 million annually.

. Introduced EEO policies and internal investigation processes that

reduced the number of EEOC charges from 37 in the previous 22 months

to 4 over the following 33 months, with these being subsequently

dismissed.

. Established a safety program that reduced lost-time injuries (LTI)

from 82 in the previous 22 months to 9 over the following 33 months

and reduced OSHA recordable injuries 88% during the same period.

Reduced the state workers' compensation modifier rating from 2.1 to

1.4, which resulted in a savings of more than $500K in annual charges

and achieved additional year-over-year savings of $300K by developing

a health services department.
