American Universities (AAU); annual budget of ~$1 billion, 6,000 faculty
and staff, and 27,000 students.
Recruited by former client to drive university's strategic planning.
Subsequently tapped to lead HR strategy and operations, including
compensation/benefits, labor and employee relations, organizational
development, recruitment, and diversity. Manage 70-person department and
$3.5 million budget; in support of a 6,000 employee university; serve as
key senior advisor to University President.
. Completely realigned university IT, conservatively achieving $5
million in cost savings within 2 years through consolidation,
economies of scale, and new strategic alliances; also developed
business case for and drove full PeopleSoft implementation and change
management.
. Steered unique UB2020 strategic planning process, involving 750+
faculty leaders across 13 schools; delivered plan that now defines
university and serves as basis for faculty recruitment, $362 million
in capital investments, pending state legislation, and development of
new downtown campus.
. Created strategic, multi-faceted training and development function
that includes 65 instructor-led courses, proprietary eLearning group
(unique in state university system), critical leadership and
supervisory development programs, and comprehensive, multi-phase
employee orientation.
. Spearheaded suite of employee wellness programs that have helped
employees collectively shed 2,000 pounds (with continuing progress at
~500 pounds per semester).
. Crafted and led full implementation of HR business partner model,
shifting perception of HR from tactical administrator to value-adding
