Position: Caseworker: As a caseworker, I work closely with clients on their
individual family base needs under the SAFE Project. The SAFE Project
deals with increasing awareness of child abuse and neglect within the
Southeast Asian community in Merced, CA. Under the SAFE Project, I am
responsible for services such as family counseling, family strengthening
activities, and workshops. On a daily basis, I case manage by setting and
scheduling my own appointments with clients and provide social services
base on individual needs. For example, I work with parents and their at-
risk youths (ages 6-18) on problem solving skills, anger management skills,
and communication skills to prevent child abuse and neglect within the
family. I am also responsible for facilitating parent and youth workshops,
which provide information about family violence issues, law enforcement
roles, and local resources. I facilitate and create a curriculum for the
SAFE Project's Youth after School Program. I also generate monthly reports
and keep accurate and updated confidential records on each registered
client.

Position: Student Intern: As an intern, I shadowed an Environmental Health
and Safety Specialist on campus. I made use of various Microsoft programs
such as Publisher, Excel, Access, and Word. I was involved in on-campus
health and safety duties including weekly hazardous waste inspections,
chemical inventory, hazardous/e-waste management and water testing. I was
also given Asbestos Awareness, blood-borne pathogens, hazardous
communication (identifying the dangers), laboratory safety, safety
orientation, and workplace violence training. I was also assign
independent projects such as making flyers, contact information list, food
safety-distribution charts, and chemical laboratory safety guides.
