Summary I have been in the data processing profession for more
than 30 years and have performed successfully in roles of
programmer analyst, Systems analyst, Project Leader and
Systems Architect. I have extensive experience in the
analysis, design, programming, testing and implementation
of applications systems in the financial, distribution,
hospital/clinic, manufacturing, State Government, and
insurance industries. Involvement has entailed
requirements definition, structured design, proposals,
cost and time estimates. I have used COBOL, JCL, CICS,
VSAM, DB2 and IMS/DL1 extensively on IBM mainframe MVS
and VSE systems. I also have many years experience using
utilities such as Expeditor, FileAid, SPUFI, Intertest,
Syncsort, Endevor, and CA7.
Experience
02/2007 - Present Mayo Clinic Rochester, MN
My most recent experience has been with Mayo Clinic on
the Patient Management team. Duties include development
and support of the HealthQuest Patient Management System
involving implementation of several project initiatives
for the Enterprise Revenue Cycle. The Patient Management
system is a very large application which supports patient
Admissions, Discharges, and Transfers. The system has
many in house written interfaces that pass
clinical/hospital data to many other downstream systems.
The application uses COBOL, CICS, ADS, Assembler, DB2,
and VSAM. I have been involved with all aspects of this
system as well writing DB2 stored procedures, Web
Services and developing new screens. One of my current
projects is developing a Work Queue sub-system for online
access to daily work for the user area such as Insurance
Eligibility correction. This project utilizes DB2, CICS
COBOL, and ADS.
05/2005 - 02/2007
Prior to Mayo Clinic I have been consulting through
Robert Half Technology.
Engagements include the following contracts:
My current contract is with Educational Credit Management
Corp. in St. Paul MN. Duties include analysis and design
of system requirements as defined by the Business
Partners followed by program construction, all phases of
system testing, and production implementation utilizing
IMS, VSAM, CICS, and Crystal Reports.
Prior to ECMC I contracted to Wells Fargo in Minneapolis.
This contract was in their mortgage data warehouse
division. Duties involved extraction of data from the
origination and servicing master files based on mapping
documents. The data is written to load ready files that
are transferred to the UNIX platform to be loaded to
DB2/UDB databases.
Prior to Wells Fargo I worked in the credit card
processing division of PEMCO Insurance's Technology
Information Services in Seattle WA. Recent projects have
been in Authorizations and screen enhancements. Pemco's
credit card services specialize in providing card
processing for credit unions and other financial
institutions. The environment is Z/OS and CICS
transaction Server. Batch processing during online up
time makes use of SYSB to allow updates of some of the
online VSAM files that make up the PowerLink system.
Experience 11/2000 to 05/13/2005 Delta Dental Plan of Minnesota
Eagan, MN
SR. Applications Developer
At Delta Dental my responsibilities include system
enhancement and production support activities. In
addition, I am involved in all corporate strategy
projects which are normally very large projects. One
large project I completed was the conversion of all
online screens to comply with HIPAA and standardized EDI
transaction rules. The system is a large online and
batch claims processing systems. The CICS online system
consists of approximately 525 online CICS programs
utilizing VSE operating system and VSAM databases. The
batch system consists of approximately 730 batch programs
and 1100 batch jobs. The systems are claims processing
and claim adjudication systems. The majority of my duties
involve the CICS onlines as well as batch . Projects
normally come through Project Office as a documented
Requirements document. Functional and Technical
specifications are written by myself and other senior
Developers. After these documents are approved, I then
begin the construction and unit testing for the projects.
QAT and UAT are also supported. 24/7 support for the
system involves weekly on-call responsibilities on a
rotation basis.
01/2000-11/2000 USBANK St.Paul, MN
Systems analyst
At USBANK I was involved in the development of a new
batch and online Visa Enhanced Fleet Card system. The
system was designed for Visa corporate customers to
maintain their fleets of vehicles. The new application
was designed utilizing COBOLII, DB2 databases, and CICS
on a IBM MVS mainframe system. My specific duties were to
design and construct a series of CICS screens to allow
access to the VISA Enhanced Fleet Card information. A
main menu was developed as the starting point for all
screens in the system. There were 35 screens developed
each having views and update capabilities of the DB2
tables as defined in the functional requirements.
1998-2000 Graco Minneapolis, MN
Systems analyst
Graco is a large manufacture of fluid handling systems
and components.
There products move, measure, control, dispense, and
apply a wide range of fluids and viscous materials used
in vehicle lubrication, commercial and industrial
settings. The Information Technology utilized was a IBM
mainframe environment utilizing IMS databases, COBOLII,
and CICS running under MVS. My responsibilities included
both the online and batch systems controlling inventory,
order picks software as well as EDI and accounting
systems. 24/7 support for the nightly batch processing
was on a rotation basis. As well as system enhancements
and maintenance of the systems, I was heavily involved in
the Y2K projects in upgrading the IMS databases as well
as the batch and CICS online systems.
1993-1998 EduServ Technologies Inc. St. Paul, MN
Project Leader/SR. Systems Architect
As a Systems Architect for the Campus-based loan
servicing system, duties include project planning,
estimates and requirements definition. Involvement in
all aspects of enhancements to the current systems as
well as maintenance. Along with my responsibilities as a
project lead, I am very hands on in the more complex or
challenging projects. Some of the projects I had been
involved with were creating a National Student Loan
Database for the Department of Education's national
database system. A 4000 hour project to enhance the
Campus-based loan servicing system to support private
loans. In addition to large projects, I had enhanced the
on-line system with several new screens and added new
functionality to the present screens. This system
consists of 500+ CICS modules and approximately 750 batch
modules. The environment is IBM 3090, IMS/DL1, DB2,
CICS, VSAM, COBOLII, BAL, SAS, Quikjob and JCL.
1989-1992 SuperValu Stores Inc. Eden Prairie, MN
Project Lead/Systems Analyst
I was responsible for a re-design and major enhancement
of the sales analysis system; the system was both batch
on on-line. Conducted joint sessions with the user area
and wrote both the request and requirements documents for
the project. Implemented an on-line software core
structure for the implementation of all on-line programs.
The project included order entry and database maintenance
for functions such as retail sales corrections, store,
store owner, store development and on-line security.
Prior to the project I designed and implemented an
automated system to load, correct and estimate retail
sales. The environment was IBM mainframe utilizing MVS,
CICS, VSAM and COBOL.
