2002-05: Pastor, First Baptist Church of Eastport, Annapolis, MD
Directed many new outreaches for declined, senior-citizen controlled church,
including:
--started Homework Club to provide afterschool tutoring in the church
--scheduled quarterly Gospelfests on Sunday nights, then Coffeehouses
on Saturday nights in Fellowship Hall after securing a grant from the city to
provide family entertainment in community
--chaired "Churches Without Boundaries," interdenominational group
fighting social injustice
--led summer missionaries in providing Vacation Bible Schools and
Servant Evangelism projects
--despite a number of baptisms of new and existing members, the 'old
guard' repelled most visitors and anyone not like them who wanted to check out
the church. Resentment to my reaching out for new blood led to my being voted
out Sept.'05
1997-98: Pastor, Park Place Union Baptist Church, Mahanoy City, PA
Led small coal-patch congregation of 25 to reach out to seekers in neighboring
towns, new Education Building completed, poor bivocational job market
prompted me to pursue fulltime teaching elsewhere
1995-96: Pastor, Wyoming Valley Baptist Church, Wilkes-Barre, PA
Grew declined 15-year-old church from 20 to 40 in average attendance before
poor bivocational job market forced resignation for financial reasons
1992-95: Missionary Pastor, Sonlight Baptist Fellowship, Bensalem, PA
*appointed Church Planter Apprentice by Home Mission Board, SBC, to start a
new church in Philadelphia suburb.
*conducted door-to-door and phone surveys, initiated newspaper articles,
sponsored concerts, conducted sports clinics and ministries to homeless and
singles to start home Bible study and then worship, with 39 in attendance at
middle school; secured storefront as fulltime church facility one year later
*Chairman, Building a Better Bensalem, a community-wide alcohol and other
drugs prevention group formed at request of local school district
*Founder/Commissioner, Bensalem Summer Youth Basketball League, worked
with township's Community Policing Dept. as kids represented their apartment
complex or section of town
