Skills:
POSITION SUMMARY: Performs site surveys and prepares detail Power
Engineering specification and drawings for customer requested
telecommunication projects. Develops and maintains office profiles and
records, updates System Equipment Libraries and assists in bidding
preparations. Performs research on new power products and helps in
developing new product specification engineering standards. Continued
participation in quality awareness and safety practices. Requires limited
assistance from the Power Engineering supervisor and Power Manager.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ DUTIES:
1. Receives and analyzes input document from customer, paying close
attention to critical dates and detailed information supplied.
2. Contacts customer to schedule site survey and gathers the necessary
form and drawings for the walk through.
3. Conducts detailed Power Engineering site survey with the customer, or
independently as needed.
4. Furnishes survey information for Bid development. Assists in the
preparation of vendor response forms.
5. Prepares Summary of Material order for issuance subsequent to bid
acceptance, always cognizant of the budget parameters.
6. Pre orders long lead material items so as not to jeopardize critical
due dates.
7. Conducts continued review/up-date of company databases with pertinent
job information.
8. Prepares/issues detailed job spec and drawings prior to the
installation start date.
9. Continues to monitor Power Engineering package during installation,
providing Field assistance as necessary.
10. Performs field review of quality and safety issues for all projects.
11. Creates a presence and maintains a continuing dialog with the customer
in order to proactively plan/recommend future projects.
12. If needed, conducts end of job review/walk through prior to turn over
and finalizes as-built for job completion.
13. Reviews and evaluates model based product selection and identifies non-
model components of particular job requests.
14. Provides input on standard model configuration and pricing.
15. Recommends changes to standard material libraries to ensure that the
appropriate supplies are being provided.
16. Subsequent to job acceptance by customer, reviews the job folder with
Eng. Assistant for the correct documentation---as-built, signed
customer acceptance, original job requests, site survey, bid
documentation etc.
Performs complex site surveys as required.
1. Update Company Engineering standards and procedures as required to
meet customer or equipment requirements.
2. Train new Power Engineers.
3. Assists field installation groups in resolving technical issues.
4. Attends customer held meetings.
5. Hold periodic meetings with Power Engineers in order to resolve any
and all concerns regarding the business and our relationship with the
customer.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS/ REQUIREMENTS:
1. Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of higher education and
field/engineering experience.
2. Prior engineering experience.
3. Knowledge of Telco services and systems.
4. Knowledge of engineering and computer principles.
5. Knowledge of installation procedures, drafting, CAD.
6. Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets general business
periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or
governmental regulations.
7. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions
from groups of managers, clients and customers.
8. Ability to calculate figures and amounts.
9. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
10. Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw
valid conclusions.
11. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in
mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and
concrete variables.
DEGREE OF AUTONOMY: Works under the direct supervision of the Power
Engineering Manager with some autonomy.
Knowledge base is complete for all areas of switching, transport and
power environments for SBC/AT&T, Bell South, Verizon West, Verizon
Wireless, Cingular Wireless, Sprint, US-LEC and Cricket. Can perform
all aspects of multiple site installation projects including:
engineering, firm price quoting, performance to quote & standard hours.
Training & development of new installers. Adherence to quality
standards and customer relations. Have been responsible for 4 - 6
million dollar installation budget each year.
Responsibility for multiple installation crews, on-time performance,
service interruption avoidance, adherence to standard methods of
procedure, job safety, total job quality and of end-of-job customer
audits. Co-ordination of job scheduling to insure accurate visibility
of available installation resources. Accurate & timely reporting of job
schedules & installer's time sheets. Manpower reviews, job operation
summaries, cost reduction actions, EEO, EPA and human resources
procedures. I continue to improve my techniques to provide my customer
base with industry leading installation services.
I provide services as follows including: receiving & analyzing
the telephone equipment order from the customer, paying close attention
to critical dates & detailed information supplied. Contact customer to
schedule detailed engineering site survey with the customer or
independently if needed. Develop survey information, including list of
materials & equipment for bid preparation. Write firm price quote,
always cognizant of budget parameters. Once bid acceptance occurs,
write detailed job specifications & build all office drawings on Auto-
Cad or Image Master, which include: floor plans, lighting plan,
auxiliary framing & cable rack plan, grounding schematic, front
equipment drawings, wiring lists and system schematics, prior to the
installation start date. Conduct end of job review with installation &
customer to finalize job folder, including as-built drawings, necessary
for job completion. Update customer's electronic job folder.
18 years experience with laptop computers equipped with Microsoft
2000 Professional, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft
Outlook, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Internet Explorer, AutoCAD
/ Image Master & Windows 7 Professional.
