rebalanced assembly line from 3 to 2
motorcycle families while reducing direct labor from 210 to 143
employees. In assembly area allocated manpower
@ an average 92% performance level. Introduced new Softail
V.I.N. Stamp Machines resulting in a 25% machine cycle reduction
time with a more consistent depth penetration.
Modified existing Dyna V.I.N. Stamp Machine to accept
larger pad & an on either side of V.I.N. within a 2 week lead
time instead of the normal 6 to 8 weeks.
Relocated wheel area: New layout & production scheduling changes
resulted in no increase in labor despite a 10% increase in
production volume. On-site inventory locations
were reduced from 5 to 3. Temporary wheel area supervisor (Fall -
Winter 1998).
